How does a researcher develop a research question for a research study? What might guide a researcher in identifying a specific topic for study?
“One of the best and most effective methods of locating the information you need is spending some time designing a search prior to actually searching for the information.” (Staines, 2019, pg. 5) When trying to select a topic for a research paper knowing the audience or what the audience is looking to get out of your research paper is what is important, being specific with the information provided, focusing on how are passing down the information, the amount of information do you want to if or condensed the information, how do you want to sound on the research for example, if you want to sound sophisticated or simple in the research. All of these are factors that are going to make the research paper successful in providing the information for the audience.
Selecting the subject can be intriguing especially if you don’t know the audience, for example, if I need to do a research paper for work since I’m in the military a piece of new equipment I would have everyone’s attention. “Develop a search strategy and search for information using resources that may actually have the type of information that you are looking for” (Staines, 2019, pg. 5) For informative reasons for this class the best I can formulate is to pick a topic to do a research paper, how to do a research paper is what sounds good to the audience of this class. In my opinion, it is essential to be prepared at the end of the research to give some space for the audience to have open questions, sometimes you can prepare yourself by asking “Why, how, what.” These are some questions you can prepare yourself to answer as the research paper is being written.

    DISCUSSION POST 2
A researcher develops a research question for a research study by finding a relevant topic that the researcher is passionate about or has a strong interest in (Staines, 2019). For example, suppose a researcher has a personal interest or experience in bullying. In that case, they might have the motivation to study the rising trend of bullying or the psychological effects it might have. Having a personal interest in the topic helps motivate the researcher and will help them write compellingly about it. If a researcher chooses a topic they aren’t interested in, they will likely not be enthused or stimulated and therefore shouldn’t expect the readers to be either (Staines, 2019).
After a researcher selects a topic that interests them then they can develop an appropriate and workable research question instead of just a statement. One of the things to consider is which point of view and discipline will the research question be examined. This helps narrow the focus of the research question. For example, the topic of bullying could take a psychological emphasis and the question could be “How does bullying in adolescence impact the development of social skills and self-esteem?” The question should be sufficiently focused but not microscopically defined. The researcher should keep in mind that the research question should be reviewed by at least five published articles along with other sources such as books or e-books (Staines, 2019). The researcher should also keep in mind that they should have data and expert opinions to back up their research.
