  • “The Dominance of English in Marrakech Tourism: Impacts on Communication, Cultural Identity, and Tourists’ Experience”

    Abderrahim Jraidi, [5/13/2024 11:49 PM]
Marrakech, Morocco’s bright tapestry is boosted by the tourism that this place receives every year from millions of people, approximately 6.5 million tourists visited the country in the first half of 2023. It is through effective communication that these experiences are made possible so as to bridge the gap between busy marketplaces and historical buildings. This research however explores how English has become dominant in Marrakech travel and its impacts on communication, cultural identity and tourists’ experience.
For example, we want to know why many individuals are learning English at a fast rate. We shall look at the shifting demographics of tourists; there are also economic benefits for vendors who can speak English well as any other policies regarding the use of language in the tourism sector.
Additionally, we will attempt to delineate what the use of English does to communication and understanding. We will see how English helps tourists communicate but also recognize that non-English speakers may find it hard. Furthermore, we will inquire into code-switching where both English and other languages such as Arabic or French are used while engaging in a conversation with regards to clarity and comprehension implications.
    Abderrahim Jraidi, [5/13/2024 11:49 PM]
By exploring these questions, We seek to illuminate the complicated interconnection between language, tourism and cultural identity in Marrakech by interrogating these ideas. We will examine how English usage affects tourists’ interactions with vendors and whether or not it changes Marrakech’s traditional cultural identity.
