  • Title: Developing a Research Question and Identifying Variables and Levels of Measurement

What is the incidence of blood clots from COVID-19 in females over the age of 35?
    The
above question is an example of a research question. A research
question consists of three parts and guides the methods and approaches
in which you will study the question to find answers. The research
question includes: the question, the topic, and the population or
variables. In the example provided above, the question is examining the
prevalence of blood clots from severe COVID-19 in a selected population.
From this question, the variables can be assessed, considerations can
be analyzed, and populations can be sampled in order to guide the
    research.
During Week 2, you developed a research problem
statement based on a topic of interest to you or your specific area of
practice. Using this research problem statement, you will develop a
research question. “A research question is a concise, interrogative
statement that is worded in the present tense and includes one or more
of a study’s principal concepts or variables” (Gray & Grove, 2020).
These questions typically point to the type of study that will be
conducted and serves as a guide for the research.
    For this
Discussion, reflect on your research problem statement. Consider the
independent and dependent variables of your research problem through the
construction of a research question. Reflect on the potential levels of
measurement for your variables and the rationale for the labels, as
well as consider the advantages and challenges that you might experience
in the statistical analysis of your proposed variables.
    To prepare:
Review your research problem statement from Week 2 to develop your research question.
Review the Learning Resources on how to describe variables.
Consider the levels of measurement for your variables: nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio.
    After
reviewing your research question and considering the levels of
measurement, analyze your classification for each variable. What was
behind your reasoning for labeling the variables? How might the data be
    analyzed based on these labels?
Consider advantages and challenges that you might encounter in the statistical analysis of your proposed variables.
Post your research question and describe the
independent and dependent variables. Then, identify the level of
measurement of both your independent and dependent variables. Provide a
brief rationale for your classification of each variable. Be specific.
Explain considerations of analyzing data related to each variable based
on its level of measurement. Be sure to include any advantages or
challenges that you might encounter in your statistical analysis of each
    variable and explain why.

  • Title: Navigating Challenges in Shared Governance: A Case Study for Ryan

Ryan graduated from his BSN program about 18 months ago and has been working on a
surgical unit in a large Magnet hospital. He belongs to his state nurse’s association and the
Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN). He recently moved to another town for
graduate school and took a job in a small community hospital. The new chief nursing
officer is trying to create a shared governance structure. The nursing staff seems
disinterested in participating in such a governance structure. Some of them complain that
they do not want to “think” about nursing beyond what they have to do at the bedside.
Ryan served on the practice council at the hospital where he worked after graduation. The
nurses he works with now are discouraging him from volunteering to serve on one of the
new councils being formed to implement shared governance. He is frustrated by his
colleagues of interest in participating in decision making about nursing care. He wonders if
this is the right place for him to work while in his graduate program. Although this hospital
is closely affiliated with the school of nursing where he is a graduate student, the nurses on
his unit openly challenge the wisdom of his decision to pursue a graduate degree.
    1. What resources should Ryan use to gain support for his desire to participate
in the new shared governance structure?
    2. If Ryan wants to test the job market to find a position in a more positive
nursing work environment, what resources can he use?
    3. Ryan has been subjected to a lot of questions and negative comments by
some of the senior staff nurses about his graduate studies. They tend to
negate the importance of advancing one’s nursing education. How can he
    redirect their comments?

  • “Addressing Health Hazards and Promoting Health in Diverse Populations: A Case Study Discussion” “Constructive Engagement: Building Knowledge and Collaboration in Academic Discussions”

For this Discussion, your instructor will assign you a case number.
    Case 1Case 2Case 3
CasesJ.G. is a nurse practitioner working in a health clinic. Her clinic provides care to a majority of Hispanic migrant farmworkers during the summer months. Farmworkers in the area are susceptible to health problems because they are in a low-income bracket and may be exposed to unsanitary working and housing conditions. The workers do not tend to seek preventive care because of finances, transportation, and fear of deportation in many instances.
She struggles with the delivery of fragmented services within the migrant community because individuals move around frequently. In her encounters with the patients she serves, she has to stress early the importance of screening and follow-up care. She must also carefully assess the level of health literacy when providing education. In addition, She remains culturally sensitive to the beliefs and practices of the population she serves.
K.Y. is an employee-health nurse practitioner for a large corporation. Her role is to advocate for her clients by helping them improve their quality of life, both for the present and the future, through the identification of risk factors, health promotion, and other nursing interventions. The majority of the employees She sees are middle-age adults.
Her clients come to see her for a variety of reasons, including stress, mental illness, and on-the-job injuries. K.Y. assists her clients by providing education about healthy lifestyle choices, referrals to community resources, and counseling.
R.K. is a home health nurse practitioner who delivers primary care to a predominantly Medicare population. The role of the home health nurse practitioner is to provide assessments to individuals inclusive of the environment, provide direct skilled care and treatment, and provide education and referrals as needed. He must work closely with the patient and his or her caregiver in trying to prevent complications of illness.
R.K. specializes in providing wound care services in the home. He visits many diabetic patients living in a senior community. These patients are considered to be homebound and use wheelchairs or walkers to reach the common dining room where meals are served every evening. He is interested in assessing the nutritional content of the meals that are served.
Questions for the caseCreate a list of health hazards associated with the migrant population in general and the one referred on the case. Which would be your recommendations to the migrant population to prevent injuries related to those hazards and how to improve their health.
Make a summary of the typical biological changes in the middle-age adult.
Create a list of recommendations of major activities older adults can engage in to promote health and prevent frailty.
Once you received your case number; answer the specific question on the table above. Then, continue to discuss the 3 topics listed below for your case:
Discuss how you would advise young adults in selecting contraceptive methods. Do you have any personal, religious reservations, or discomforts that would interfere with your ability to advise clients and ask them how they would address these personal conflicts?
Have students develop a smoking cessation plan for a client.
Evaluate the impact of poverty on older adults. Make sure to include the impact on their physical and mental health and health promotion recommendations.
    Submission Instructions:
Your instructor will assign you your case number and you will post on the case number you have been assigned.
You will reply to the other two case studies (One of each).
Your initial post should be at least 500 words, formatted and cited in current APA style with support from at least 2 academic sources. Your initial post is worth 8 points.
You should respond to at least two of your peers by extending, refuting/correcting, or adding additional nuance to their posts. Your reply posts are worth 2 points (1 point per response.) All replies must be constructive and use literature where possible.
Attention: Please post your initial response by 11:59 PM ET Thursday, and comment on the posts of two classmates by 11:59 PM ET Friday.
You can expect feedback from the instructor within 48 to 72 hours from the Friday due date.

    Purpose of Assignment:
The purpose of this assignment is for students to explain how ethical and bioethical considerations impact professional nursing practice. After reading the required text and online resources, the students will synthesize and apply the information on how such factors guide their own professional nursing practice.
    Assignment Instructions
Step 1 – Prepare to Write the Essay:
Read Chapter 12 of the textbook (7th edition or 8thedition) . (Hint: The chapter authors are Epstein and Maynard.)
Read selected online resources for this week.
Review the grading rubric below to see how the paper will be evaluated.  Look at the distribution of the points for this assignment.
Review the case scenarios below that describe situations that you may have experienced in your nursing practice or could experience in future practice.
    CASE SCENARIOS:
You observe a homeless person without any insurance being provided substandard care by the healthcare team (Maville & Huerta, 2008).
A client who is paralyzed is considering physician-assisted suicide and asks you for help in locating a physician (Maville & Huerta, 2008).
You are a nurse providing home care to a mother, and you suspect child abuse after observing the mother’s reaction to her child (Maville & Huerta, 2008).
After a consultation with the physician, your patient has a new diagnosis listed on her chart: “Peripheral neuropathy: Complication related to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).” The patient informs you that she does not want her significant other to know about her HIV status. When the patient’s significant other comes to visit, he asks you about the consultation with the physician.
In Arizona, an 18-year-old patient has come to you, with his mother, to review his immunization record before he enters college to make sure that he has all the necessary vaccines to protect him while in college. You see that he has not received the Gardasil vaccine. The mother tells you privately that she does not want her son to receive the vaccine.
A newborn that you cared for last evening is now in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  The charge nurse asks that all nurses caring for the infant review their charting from the previous day and to add or change details to indicate that all unit protocols were followed. She asks you to be sure that your charting is consistent with all other nurses who cared for the newborn.
Your German-speaking patient is in a lot of pain, because she cannot urinate and has a full bladder. Her husband tells you that she has had a urinary catheter placed during a previous hospitalization and that she will agree to having one placed again.
Select a case scenario that you will refer to within your paper.  Note that the case scenarios are vague purposely to allow you to think of all kinds of ethical and bioethical influences that may apply to your responses.
Please review the attached Ethics Essay Rubric.

  • Title: Advocating for Policy Change to Address Prevalence of STIs among Adolescent Females in Wayne County, Indiana Title: Addressing Social Determinants of Health in an At-Risk Population: A Policy Proposal for Equitable Health Care Access and Provision

The action plan I have chosen to advocate for is the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections (STI) among females aged 14-18, specifically chlamydia. According to County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, in Wayne County Indiana alone 472.5 new cases of chlamydia were diagnosed (per 100,000 residents, 2021), with the state number breaking the 500-case mark- which is above the national average. Chlamydia is the most common STI in North America, and can cause infertility, pelvic inflammatory disease, as well as risk for cervical cancer. In hopes of combating this, I feel that improved sexual education in the school is key, this will not only give medically correct information, but it will encourage these young people and their parents to seek appropriate reproductive healthcare. My plan is to include providers such as a pediatrician and an OBGYN, as well as a specialized NP in order to provide a sense of reliability and quick access to health professionals. At this time, Indiana has no sexual education requirement. Indiana Code 20-30-5-13 requires instruction in schools on HIV and abstinence as the expectation outside of a monogamous marriage. Without further intervention and policy/code change, STI numbers will rise.
Advocating for policy change to improve health outcomes in the community
Details Professional nurses have the potential to influence health policy by using a collective voice for patient and healthcare advocacy. In this assessment, you will demonstrate competence as an advanced professional nurse leading an interprofessional advocacy action team (AAT) to advocate for population health policy change. You will explore the role of the advanced professional nurse advocating for a policy proposal related to a current health issue for an at-risk population in your community. You will gather and analyze data to identify patients and populations at risk, recommend policy change to improve health outcomes in the community, and identify key stakeholders to serve on the AAT. You will also demonstrate the ability to identify and communicate effectively with essential policymakers to move the policy forward. Finally, you will create a summary of the policy proposal in (I)SBAR format (i.e., identify, summary, background, assessment, recommendation). Before starting this task, you must have completed CAM2 Task 1 and the “CPE Record” associated with that task. REQUIREMENTS Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. An originality report is provided when you submit your task that can be used as a guide. You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course. Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).
    A. Discuss two differences in how an advanced professional nurse advocates for an at-risk population in the community versus how an advanced professional nurse advocates for an individual patient in the clinical practice setting. Include scholarly source(s) as part of your response.
    B. Describe how the advanced professional nurse will apply two evidence-based strategies to promote interprofessional collaboration within an Advocacy Action Team (AAT). Include one scholarly source to support your description.
    C. Analyze data that validates a health issue affecting an at-risk population in the county or state where you live or work. Include relevant source(s) as part of your response.
    D. Describe two characteristics of the at-risk population identified in part C.
    E. Analyze how a specific social determinant of health (SDOH) in the county or state is predisposing the at-risk population from part C to the health issue identified in part C.
    F. Analyze how current policy is insufficient to address the SDOH identified in part E. Note: Current policy may be a county ordinance, county or state regulation, state law, program, school curriculum, health initiative, etc.
    G. Provide a policy proposal to address the SDOH identified in part E. Include scholarly source(s) to support your policy proposal as part of your response.
    1. Describe how the policy proposal could impact the health issue from part C.
    2. Discuss how the policy proposal will address diversity in the population to ensure equitable distribution of resources.
    3. Describe how the policy proposal upholds two provisions from the ANA Code of Ethics. Include relevant source(s) as part of your response.
    4. Describe two actual or potential barriers in your county or state that impede the implementation of the policy proposal.
