    The location chosen was to focus on is lower east side Manhattan NYC and the following is what we have to work on for the paper. please follow the attached rubric. OBJECTIVES:
    1. Describe the “community” your group has chosen to survey in terms of its geographical parameters, demographics, socio-cultural composition. 2. Identify three major health problems that effect this community and impact the health and well-being of maternal child health and or the family.
    3. Identify three factors found in the specific community that may contribute to illness during the childbearing/childrearing period. Give specific strategies that may help combat the negative factors identified.
    4. Identify three health and human services agencies that are available within the chosen community to combat health and environmental problems.
    5. Outline the steps you as a nurse would have to take to refer a patient/family to one of the identified agencies.
    6. Explain the importance of a healthy community as it relates to successful childbearing/childrearing.

  • Title: “Exploring Mental Illness: An Unfolding Case Study with Jasmine Clark”

    Instructions:Jasmine Clark is a 18-year-old female who resides at home with her mother and father. She is a senior in high school and plans to attend the University of Nebraska next fall. This is her first psychiatric visit. She insists that she needs to go to the hospital because she is “mentally ill”. Her parents are with her at the pediatric office.
    Chief Complaint: “I think I need help.”
    Past Psychiatric History: No prior psychiatric treatment
    Medical History: No acute or chronic medical conditions. Reports regular menstrual period. No history of sexual relationships. Urine toxicity negative and pregnancy test negative upon admission. No incidents of tic disorder.
    This is an unfolding case study which we will be utilizing for this discussion
    Questions:
    In your opinion, what is mental illness?
    You are the nurse who will be interviewing the patient. What concepts do you need to consider before you prepare to go and speak with Jasmine? (Elaborate on at least 3)
    Based on the nervous system, what assessment questions could illuminate a potential mental health disorder? (Elaborate on at least 3).
    What information can be obtained from the parents

    You will evaluate the quality of a research article by completing an in-depth critique using a standardized form, adding definitions of each criterion to guide your analysis. Instructions to complete the critique are largely the same for both group and individual assignments, with exception of workload.  You will use a different assigned article for each critique.

  • Title: “When to Refer: Managing Pediatric Cardiac, Atopic, Rheumatic, Immunodeficiency, and Respiratory System Disorders in Primary Care”

    Cardiac, Atopic, Rheumatic, Immunodeficiency, and Respiratory System Disorders
    This week, you are discussing pediatric conditions affecting cardiac, atopic, rheumatic, immunodeficiency, and respiratory system disorders. An important question for NPs is when should you refer? The answer is more about clinical judgment than what the practice guidelines say, although always follow practice guidelines on when to refer as with all else. Remember, even cardiologists have difficulty with things such as distinguishing certain murmurs. You need to be very careful about interpreting tests such as EKGs, echocardiograms, chest films, MRIs, CT scans, etc. Unless you have received formal education in these areas, it is best to refer. Always keep in mind “scope of practice.” Exceptions would be previously diagnosed conditions that are now stable with current treatment.

Please do not include any other resources i.e. articles, or books from any other courses taken during your RN to BSN program.  APA resources should be exclusively from the HUM 490 course.
    The last slide of the PowerPoint should be a Reference slide in which you do APA references (7th edition)  for the three in-slide references you included in the PowerPoint. 
    Incorporate the tenants of good PowerPoint design in terms of consistent font use, clean lay-out, and the use of color to promote engagement.
