PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING POST:
Compare and contrast qualitative and quantitative research
Qualitative research methodologies aim to capture research that cannot be expressed numerically (Research, 2024). There are several research approaches in qualitative research such as action research in which researchers actively pursue an intervention, ethnography uses a holistic approach such as cultural practices, beliefs, and traditions, grounded theory is used to understand decision-making, and problem solving, narrative research is used to evaluate human experiences, and lastly phenomenology is used to understand lived experiences and how they find meaning in their experiences (Research, 2024). Quantitative methodologies use statistics to analyze numerical data gathered by researchers (Research, 2024). Quantitative uses independent and dependent variables, as well as correlational research which compares the relationship between two things, descriptive is used to quantify a variety of factors, experiments are created one being to control and the other is not, as well and using quasi-experimental and surveys (Research, 2024).
Qualitative or Quantitative
My topic is the implementation of distraction techniques for dementia patients, which would lean towards being a qualitative study. Qualitative studies require the researcher to interpret data to form ideas. My topic is based on different techniques that can effectively engage this population to prevent or reduce the risk of agitation. A newly diagnosed patient with dementia would have to deal with adjustments and learn how to cope. There are four categories of coping strategies which are the option to keep going and hold on to life as usual, adjusting and adapting to the demands of the disease, accepting the situation, and lastly avoid difficult situations (Helvik, 2021). Once a person accepts that they have dementia, they are more receptive to treatment and different techniques to help them function daily. Distraction techniques can also produce different outcomes when each is applied. By using a qualitative design this group can be evaluated on how they operate effectively in society after these techniques are implemented. -

Title: Reflective Analysis of Synchronous Labor Simulation Activity
Participating in the Labor Activity
Your instructor will introduce the activity and break out participants into teams.
Each team will be placed in their own private Zoom breakout room.
Your team will be given 5 minutes to choose a leader to “drive” the simulation for your group.
This person will need to share their screen and implement the decisions of the group.
Make sure your leader has a strong internet connection. You may want to compare download speeds.
Ensure that your leader can share their desktop, making sure to share computer sound when they do.
When everyone is ready, your instructor will broadcast a message to begin the simulation.
Complete the simulation.
Doing so will require conferring with your teammates to answer questions regarding a wide variety of relevant nursing topics and achieving certain tasks.
Some of the questions are intentionally difficult. Try to work through them without asking your instructor (or the internet) for help. That said, if you get stuck, you can request intervention from your instructor via the “Ask for help” button.
You will have 60 minutes to complete the simulation at which point you will automatically be returned to the main Zoom session to debrief.
Once your escape room is completed, you need to take a screenshot of your final page with the score to turn in to the instructor with the names of individuals in the group.
Participate in the debriefing session that immediately follows.
Complete and submit the reflection questions.
Reflecting on your learning is a great way to build clinical judgment skills. As you complete the Synchronous Labor Simulation Activity, take a few minutes to think about the learning experience.
Why as a nurse are you concerned that Gladys is GBS positive? What consequences can this have on her newborn?
Under what circumstances would allowing Gladys to labor in the tub be contraindicated?
Would you expect Gladys to be at a lower or higher risk for postpartum mood disorders? What factors lead you to your decision?
Sierra desired to have a VBAC. What risks may occur during labor and delivery for patients attempting a VBAC?
What communication techniques could you initiate to decrease the anxiety Sierra may be experiencing?
Evaluation
Labor synchronous learning activity is mandatory and will be evaluated with the Synchronous Labor Simulation Rubric.
One page, APA citations and two or more reference is required. should answer those five questions properly:Reflecting on your learning is a great way to build clinical judgment skills.
