  • “The Role of Critical Thinking in Accounting and Business Analysis” “Enhancing Business Analysis Skills through Critical Thinking: A Review of the BABOK Guide and Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking Concepts and Tools”

Based on the article “The Miniature Guide to Critical Thinking,” by Paul and Elder, Critical Thinking can be defined as the skill of strategically evaluating and interpreting thought with the intention of making it better by utilizing elements of thoughts.
Being a property accountant, I am faced with several challenges on a daily basis. A brief example of such is reconciling the bank statements of the several properties I’m responsible for and find discrepancies such as unfamiliar transactions. As an accountant, I have to thoroughly analyze the bank statement and raise questions such as did the client approve this expense? or Is there a receipt for this transaction. Next is to look for any internal communication that this expense and if not found, contact the client to gather information on the unfamiliar transaction. Based on the information gathered I am then able to determine if this transaction is legitimate and categorize it accordingly or flag this transaction a potential fraud which will be communicated to the client. In the above scenario, this highlights how important critical thinking is and it involves questioning, analyzing information and utilizing logic to solve problems.
In my quest to find job openings listed on ZipRecruiter, I found a position open at blueStone for a Business Analyst. This position requires analyzing and documenting the requirements using client templates, Validating the requirements through peer reviews and consistency checks and Leading the requirements management process for a project team. In Relation to BABOK Guide Knowledge Areas the following the skillset required by blueStone can be place in:
    • Business Analysis Planning and Monitoring: Demonstrating service delivery excellence by creating     and maintaining high-quality deliverables for client
    • Elicitation and Collaboration: Eliciting business, user and system requirements using techniques such as facilitated workshops, user task analysis and focus groups
    • Requirements Life Cycle Management: Maintaining existing and creating new relationships at the client site
    • Strategy Analysis: Working with business users to help identify and document features and product requirements
    • Requirements Analysis and Design Definition: Working in RUP and/or Agile Software Development Life-Cycle processes
The two-peer reviewed definitions of critical thinking is as follows:
According to Paul and Elder (2006) Critical thinking is the art of analyzing and evaluating thinking with a view to improving it.
Critical thinking is the ability to effectively analyze information and form a judgment. Ryan (2022)
Paul and Elder (2006) focus on the process of critical thinking, describing it as the “art of analyzing and evaluating thinking.” Ryan (2022) focuses on the outcome of critical thinking, highlighting the ability to “form a judgment.” Paul and Elder’s definition suggests a more sophisticated approach, implying analysis with the intention of improvement. Ryan’s definition is more concise, emphasizing the basic ability to analyze and judge. I find value in both definitions as Paul and Elder (2006) definition captures the ongoing nature of critical thinking and Ryan (2022) highlights the core skill of critical thinking – making informed judgments based on analysis.
Both definitions emphasize the importance of analyzing information in critical thinking, though they use slightly different wording.

  • Improving ISBAR Communication in a Cardiac Rehabilitation Facility: A Nurse Leader’s Role

Read the scenario below about a situation occurring in a cardiac rehabilitation facility. After reading the scenario, write a 500-750-word reflection paper responding to the questions that follow. Scenario: You are the nurse leader in a cardiac rehabilitation facility. Your unit has several nurses who act as preceptors for nursing students from the local college. You notice that the student nurses seem to lack confidence in using the ISBAR communication tool for handoffs. One day, you overhear a student saying: “I hate doing handoffs; I’m afraid of making a mistake. The nurses all seem to use ISBAR differently.” Questions: As the nurse leader, what steps would you take to investigate this issue further? Explain what specific information you would try to gather. If your investigation revealed that team members are using the ISBAR tool inconsistently, describe at least two actions you would take as the nurse leader to address this. Discuss whether or not it would be appropriate for you, as the nurse leader, to provide education on using the ISBAR tool to both the nursing students and your staff. Support your position. Submission Guidelines: Length: Your paper must be a minimum of 500 words and should not exceed 750 words, not including the title and reference pages. Title Page: Include a title page with the title of your paper, your name, the course name and number, your instructor’s name, and the date of submission. Introduction: Begin your paper with an introduction that provides a brief overview of the scenario and outlines the main points that will be covered in your paper. Body: The body of your paper should be divided into sections with headings that correspond to each of the questions provided. Each section should thoroughly answer the question, supported by evidence from your references and the scenario. Conclusion: Conclude your paper with a summary of your findings, reiterating the importance of the issue addressed and suggesting possible future steps or implications. References: Include a reference page at the end of your document. At least two references in APA format are required.

  • “Feasibility Study for a Luxury Hotel in Portland, Oregon”

1.You do not have a standalone cover page which is required in the assignment instructions. 2. Introduction: No header which is required in the assignment instructions. 3. Your introduction is more like an executive summary. A statement like “This project will serve as an analysis that drives the decision process of where and why to build a new hotel” can be included in the intro. 4. ‘Tourists from across the globe usually flock to Portland to enjoy various tourist destinations, including cultural attractions, popular events, nature beauty, and food and beverage scenes.’ – You did not cite it. Where did you pull this information from? 5. No indentation is needed in an APA intro. 6. 1234 NW Pearl Street, Portland, OR 97045: Please double check if this is a real address. I also recommend you show figures (e.g., map) in the locations section. 7. Idea Part II: This section is missing. 8. Idea Part I and III: You need to present your ideas specific to what specific brand/flag works for your chosen location, for what reasons. You provide the general description of two hotel brands. Remember the purpose of a white paper is not conveying the general information or education. Feasibility Studies are what we conduct for owners who are investing tens of millions of dollars. You are missing the necessary information in the Ideas section – justification! Why did you select these locations? Why did you select these two brands rather than other major brands? This document is the first phase of your feasibility study. Feasibility Studies are what we conduct for owners who are investing huge amount of money. Your white paper cannot be persuasive without justifications. You need to improve Ideas section by explaining why location/brand matters for hotel investment and adding depth. Think from the investors’ perspective. Does your location section attract your investors? 9. Good you have a reference list. You need to fix the citation from online sources though. Learn from Purdue OWL website. This is an easy fix! 10. I believe you put efforts into this project. You put analysis as well. However, there is a lack of depth of analysis. I would like to see more numerical indicators, more writing like an HVS report would read. I believe you can improve! You have some decent analysis pieces, but not persuasive enough due to the absence of justification. As I said earlier, Feasibility Studies are what we conduct for owners who are investing tens of millions of dollars. What they care most about is financial indicators. The key is – Are you interested in investing in this hotel after reading this report as an investment party? 11. You can re-submit your assignment to improve your manuscript if you prefer. Most importantly, you need to read the assignment instructions thoroughly to ensure you do not miss any required components. Your actual grade will be based on the improved version. To clarify, your current grade will be replaced with a new one if your second submission is better. Let’s focus on learning rather than mere evaluation. As we’re nearing the end of our degree, I expect more from our students, as I believe you do too. This is a great start, but I know you can do better! 12. Let’s build a luxury hotel (you still need to present a specific brand/flag for your feasibility study topic and get approved) at 567 SE Industrial Avenue, Portland, OR 97032. This location is worth investigating for your feasibility study
