You are expected to write an annotated bibliography including at least 10 empirical, peer reviewed
articles on the topic of your choice (within the broad area of clinical psychology, all 10 on the same
topic). This must include a citation in APA style. Then, for each article provide a summary (at least 5
sentences) and an evaluation/critique of the article (at least 2 sentence).
Empirical means that data was
collected and analyzed, so be sure you are discussing the results and what the researchers found.
If there is not a RESULTS section for you to discuss, don’t use that article! It will NOT count
and you will automatically lose 10 points.
Helpful hint. When I say critique, don’t tell me you liked/didn’t like the article. I want you to
evaluate the strengths/weaknesses of the study. What did it do well? What could it have
improved? Also, don’t include book chapters – I know you didn’t go to the library and copy the
pages, so don’t pretend you did! This is also a hint that you definitely shouldn’t include a whole
book…

Demonstration of self-awareness, personal insight and reflexivity when
evaluating the influence of formative life experience on the
self. Identification of personal issues, e.g. blind spots and configurations of
self, that may affect interpersonal relationships. Application of relevant
theories about personal development over the lifespan, e.g., attachment
theory, psychosocial development, Bronfenbrenner to understand and
process personal experience. Discussion of personal ethical sense, including
awareness of values, beliefs and attitudes and morals. Demonstration of
awareness of the importance of self-compassion and self-care and the
relationship of these to professional issues such as burn-out. All themes must
be sufficiently addressed and related to the professional role of counsellor

You will electronically (electronic library database) locate a recent article (dated within the last 5 years) from a professional/academic journal. When conducting your research, look for articles that are specific to school counseling and theories, not teaching or education in general.  When researching your article, think about topics such as: application in the school setting, relevance to school counseling, connection with school age population, school change interventions, connection of theorist or theory with current school counseling issues, etc.  
Paper must include both a summary of the article (purpose, methods, results, conclusion) and critique of article (strengths, weaknesses, application to school counseling, reflection of personal relevance.  
A link to the article must accompany your final paper. 
APA format is required. 
Paper must include a total of 6-8 pages including:   
Title page 
Abstract page 
3-5 pages of content (including appropriate headings, headers, and page numbers) 
Reference page 

Each prompt needs to be a paragraph. 
Prompt 1: What are the Big Five traits, and why are they important in understanding someone’s personality? Can you think of examples of each trait from people you know or characters from books or movies?
Prompt 2: How might someone’s culture affect their personality traits? Can you give examples of how different cultures might value different traits?
Prompt 3: What do you think about schools using personality tests to help guide students’ educational paths or career choices? What could be the benefits or drawbacks of this approach?
This section needs to be 1.2 pages. 
Choose two contemporary theories of personality discussed in Week 2, such as the Big Five theory and behavioral genetics.
Discuss how different cultural settings might influence or alter the interpretation and validity of these theories. Consider how cultural norms, values, and environmental factors might affect the expression of personality traits outlined in each theory.
Discuss a short case study or hypothetical scenario for each theory showing how it might apply differently in two distinct cultural contexts (e.g., individualistic vs. collectivistic cultures).
Again, while formal citations within your paper are not required for this assignment, please refer back to the class materials and readings to support your arguments.

Divorce and Domestic Violence
Cynthia was a beautiful and talented woman pursuing her dreams. With success came a whirlwind of fame, a husband, and six children. Several calls were made to seek help for the violence she suffered behind closed doors. Cynthia is not alone; millions of women around the world face the same fate at the hands of a partner. In this case, her life was unbearable and there was no way out. Married at age 20, she was dead by the age of 38. Poverty and economic struggles in a marriage may affect the rates at which couples will part. During the Great Depression, the rate of domestic violence went up in the United States as the divorce rate went down. When women are unable to financially care for their family, history tells us that a marriage—even a bad marriage—is preferred. There is some evidence that divorce proves a safety valve in cases of family violence. In the United States, the passing of no-fault divorce laws during the 1970s resulted in a rise in divorce rates and a decrease in domestic violence and women’s suicide. There is only one country in the world, other than the Vatican, where there is a national no-divorce policy… no possibility of divorce. Annulment is an option, but it is expensive and socially discouraged.
Question: Where is this country? What is the difference between a divorce and an annulment? Can you find any evidence for or against the position that a divorce provides a safety valve for women?
