“Exploring Developmental Psychology: A Critical Analysis of Current Research and Theories”
You can earn up to 3% points towards your final grade.
Please choose only one option:
OPTION 1:
There are two different ways to go about writing this paper. The first involved picking 2 papers from scientific journals and writing a summary about both and then integrating them. So, for example, you would go to the library and find an article related to developmental psychology and write a summary (2 pages) about the paper. This will, assuming the summary is good, earn you 1% point towards your final grade. If you do a second paper (2 pages) this will earn you an additional point towards your final grade. To get the third percentage point, you need to integrate the 2 papers and be critical (positively or negatively) about them (2 pages). You cannot do a third paper for this third percentage point. If you do this first option, this should yield a 6- page paper. You must have a 7th page in which you provide your references in APA-style.
OPTION 2:
The second way to get the three points is to pick a topic (say attachment) and write a brief paper on attachment. It must contain 3 original references (the textbook is not considered a primary source; websites are not sources; must be from a scientific journal) and be 6 pages in length. You must have a 7th page in which you provide your references in APA-style. Be critical. The paper will be evaluated and assigned a grade of up to 3% points.
The journals that you will find article pertaining to Developmental Psychology are (but not limited to):
Developmental Psychology
Child Development
Cognitive Development
Infancy
Please feel free to use whatever scientific journals you like as long as they are related to Developmental Psychology.
The extra credit writing assignment must be typed using 12-point, double-spaced Times New Roman font (1-inch margins) and must be uploaded to Canvas by the designated due date. Your writing assignment will be submitted to Turnitin software to ensure that the work you submit is your own work – use of automated software or AI such as ChatGPT or other programs is strictly prohibited. Papers that are flagged for plagiarism or use of AI to generate writing will be reported to the Student Integrity Committee, even for extra credit writing assignments. This means you must be sure to use your own words, unless quoting another’s work. Turnitin will return a similarity score for your submitted work – checking your work against published papers and previously submitted student papers. No late extra credit papers will not be accepted. Please refer to course schedule for due date of this extra credit paper. -
“The Mind of BTK: A Psychological Analysis of a Serial Killer’s Confessions”
The assignment is to write a paper, approximately 10 pages, (but could be more or less), double spaced, about the psychology of BTK, based upon his “Confessions” book. The first part of the paper should consist of a psychological evaluation of BTK, including a mental status as well, as discussed and reviewed in Week 2. This should include, eg, a section on his presenting complaint, history of present symptoms, past psychological history, mental status, diagnosis and conclusions. The mental status should include a review of his thought processes, thought content, mood and affect, intellect, etc. Items from his biography (with page #) can be used to illustrate your findings. The second part of the paper should consist of a deeper discussion of BTK’s psychology, reflecting your knowledge of the book, videos, and lectures that reflect your current understanding of the psychology of criminal behavior, as learned from this course. You do not need to use APA style, nor extensive/exact citations.
The paper will be graded on the following criteria:
1. Well written, with Correct Grammar and Spelling, typed in appropriate format. 3 points.
2. Psychological Evaluation will cover major aspects, with examples and occasional page references. 5 points.
3. Mental Status, within Psych eval will also cover significant aspects, with examples and occasional page references. 4 points.
4. Section Two, a deeper look at BTK’s psychology, with theories, perspectives, ideas and insights from this course enriching your analysis. 13 points. -
“Influencing Behavior: Three Strategies for Social Change” 1) Restated Thought Share: I would like to see my friend, Sarah, change her behavior of constantly being late for our plans. 2) Three ways social influence could predict that
Part one:
For this Thought Share please relate a situation in which you would like somebody to change their behavior. Please specify the person is (and please make it a single person and not a group of people) and what specific behavior (i.e., action, activity) you would like to see changed. This can be a person you know and have a relationship with or somebody you don’t personally know. (You don’t have to be in a position to get the person to change their behavior.)
Part Two:
For this assignment, I’d like for you to look back to your Thought Sharing assignment where you were asked what behavior would you like to see changed.
Using the concepts in this chapter, I’d like for you to describe three different ways the person may change their behavior through social influence. This social influence could come from you or other people. (If you chose somebody you didn’t know, the influence would almost definitely need to be from another.)
So, here are the items to do……
1) Please restate your thought share so I know who you are wanting to influence and what behavior you are wanting to influence. (If you want, you can cut and paste from your thought share discussion.) (1 point)
2) State three different ways social influence would predict that the person could change their behavior. For each item you will need to pick one concept from the list below. You cannot use a concept more than once. This means you’ll have to talk about three different concepts for this. Each way will likely take 1-3 sentences. (3 points each)
Concepts that can be used:
normative social influence
informational social influence
social impact theory
minority influence
injunctive norms
descriptive norms
foot-in-the-door technique
door-in-the-face technique
obedience
power (one of six types of power….this concept is not in the textbook, see the video for more information)
Please number the answer, so i can know which will go with. NO OUTSIDE SOURCES, JUST

Assignments and discussions worked towards many components of the paper giving you the opportunity to refine your research and writing skills and obtain feedback. I encourage you to be open, honest and reflective and use your previous work to prepare for your paper or seek further review via draft submissions. Here is a sample paper you can review for formatting, its citations are not perfect which is why I use it. I care about the basic set up, your content and application, and that you know when you should make a citation.

“Exploring the Dynamics of Group Conflict: A Biblical Perspective” “The Power of Humility and Group Cohesion in Achieving Success”
Plz replay to this DB post include biblical reference in the replay post
What is the current state of the research on this topic based on the articles you read (please be mindful to include a discussion of the articles you have read)?
A major theme addressed in these articles is that there is no linear path to understanding the dynamics of group conflict. Individual motives, group motives, power dynamics, history, and reasons for intervention all contribute to the group interplay and ultimately determine the impact of the interaction. Intergroup helping is divided into three categories: Intergroup Helping as Subtle Discrimination, Strategic Motives for Intergroup Helping, and Intergroup Helping in the Field. Many previous books and studies have had a 4:1 ratio of negative to positive articles, driving this chapter’s quest to search for positive interactions and motives (Kogut & Ritov, 2017).
Some interventions cited as changing attitudes in inner group conflict are providing contradictory information, paradoxical thinking, enlightening individual shortcomings, teaching skills, and information processing model (Bar-Tal & Hameiri, 2020). Each of these models are potentially efficacious, but their overall effect is contingent upon the complexities of the real world and the motives attached to the beliefs of those in the group. Hunter et al. (2019) found that perceived control has a direct relationship to outcomes and discrimination. When assessing interventions. inner group conflict must be carefully assessed to match the appropriate intervention to the group narrative at hand (Bar-Tal & Hameiri, 2020).
Simon (2019) brings about a new perspective in which the group members’ concerns for respect and recognition are better classified as different equals. Different equals are defined as one’s ability to retain their personal perspectives while also recognizing their value as an equal. This means that we accommodate where possible and where it is not possible, we honor their differences. Perhaps this acceptance of an individual difference is the catalyst for change that brings the individual from the fight for recognition into the group battle to win the over-arching collective goal. This dynamic shift in perception seeks to remove the spotlight from individual differences to group unity (Simon, 2019).
When evaluating articles, it is important to outline parameters that answer questions about the treatments that are not effective, assess the benefits and risks of treatment, spot gaps in knowledge, and filter the quality of randomized controlled trials. Whether conducting a meta-analysis or systematic review, it is imperative that you select a review question, determine eligibility criteria, use multiple reviewers, select quality studies, ensure they meet the standards for the study, synthesize the data, analyze and present the results. Each step in this process is critical to ensure that the data generated meets the criteria for clinically relevant conclusions that can be applied to the target population (Impellizzeri & Bizzini, 2012).
What limitations or gaps in the research exist that should be addressed/studied?
A gap in research is that the interventions reviewed are subject to the particular group interaction and the groups perceived control (Bar-Tal & Hammeiri, 2020; Hunter et al., 2019). High and low levels of perceived control indicate an increases in discrimination (Hunter et al., 2020). Social psychology suggests that the field could use more studies that focus on positive motives and interactions (Kogut & Ritov, 2017).
What biblical truths could be applied to this area to enhance our knowledge or research direction?
Romans 12:3-8 implores us to think of ourselves humbly, have sound judgement, live in the purpose for which we are called, respect each member of the body, and to do so with generosity. Many conflicts arise from our desire to be important, are rooted in self-righteousness, driven by personal power, and promote the individual. When we operate in humility, think about the collective whole. walk in our specific gifting, consider the interest of others, and facilitate group cohesion, we can accomplish the task at hand (Amplified Bible, 2015). -
