Instructions
Follow the instructions and the Grading Rubric.
The Learning Reflection Journal is a compilation of weekly learning reflections you’ll independently write about across Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7. During each of the assigned weeks, you will write two paragraphs, each 300 words in length (i.e., 600 words total). The first paragraph will describe a topic that you found particularly interesting during that week and what made it interesting, and the second paragraph will describe something that you have observed occurring in the real world that exemplified that topic. Only one topic may be recorded in the journal for each assigned week and your observed real-word occurrence must be clearly related to it. Submit a copy of each entry during the week in which it is required.
In week 7, you will submit a paper that consolidates these five journal entries into a single summary document. The summary document should conclude with an additional two summary paragraphs (500 hundred words in length), integrating your thoughts and insights about the experience, as well as an introduction to the summary document.
This assignment needs to follow APA 7th edition format.
Use the following as a checklist.
APA Title Page includes Your name, Psychology Department, American Public University, PSYC221, Instructor’s Name, and date. Each of these items needs to be on a separate line and this information needs to be centered in APA 7th edition format.
Introduction: summarizes the major points to be covered in the paper. The introductory paragraph ends with a well-developed topic sentence.
Following the introduction are Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7. Each week is at least 600 words in two paragraphs. The first paragraph describes a topic that you found interesting during that week and what made it interesting. The second paragraph describes something that you have observed occurring in the real world that exemplified that topic. This will be the body of the paper. Weeks 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 need to be at least 3000 words (600 words per week Xs 5 weeks).
Add an overall conclusion of two summary paragraphs. The conclusion needs to be at least 500 words that synthesize the weekly reflections as well as summarize observations and experiences.
Add at least 2 references in APA 7th edition format.
Refer to the link below for APA 7th edition formatting.

“Taking a Stand: Analyzing and Defending a Position on a Psychological Issue”
For the final paper, you will take a position on a psychological topic of your choosing. The guidelines for the paper are as follows:
1. Determine the position (supporting/opposing) you are taking on your chosen issue.
2. Find a minimum of three (3) sources in the form of psychological articles to use in writing your paper. One of your sources must be arguing against your position.
3. The final paper should be in APA style, 3-4 pages in length (excluding title and reference pages), double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, one-inch margins. References and title pages will not be part of the count.
4. Include an APA formatted reference page citing all sources used in the development of your argument (this will not be part of the page count).
5. In-text citations of sources when needed.
There are three objectives that must be fulfilled for the final paper:
1. Clearly present the position you are taking on the chosen topic.
2. Deconstruct/unpack the arguments made for and against this issue based on the articles you have gathered as evidence. What makes them valid arguments? What features weaken each argument? What are the strengths of each argument?
3. Construct and present your own argument for your position. Show that you understand the arguments being made in support of and against your position.

Title: Understanding Memory: The Power of Chunking Presentation Link: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1RkFJWgB8C5Yp2Nz8Jp6Bh6Lr7
Create a short slide presentation related to material from chapter 3 or 4 and share it with the class. You can be creative with this post.
**I don’t want more than 2 students to make a presentation about the same topic, so it will be YOUR responsibility to look through the titles of all posts before you submit. You will be docked points if you don’t follow this direction. You can make a post that says what you are “calling” so you don’t have to worry about working on a post and by the time you’re done two others have already posted about it.
Can use:

– PowerPoint
– Google Slides
– Prezi
– other ideas?
Title: Chapter ?, topic of presentation
Go more in-depth than the posted PowerPoint in teaching your term to the class. This should be 2-5 slides of content (title and references slides don’t count as content).
Your presentation should be helpful to the students in the class as you study for your exam. Do NOT just restate what is said in the book, like a definition, or what I said in my slides.
Attach your presentation to the post (if you can embed it do that, but I’m not sure that’s possible this week). You can also post a web link instead of attaching (like for Google Slides or Prezi).
Describe your aid in 100-150 words, and why it’s useful in understanding the concept. (That’s right, you won’t be held to the 300 words this week because there will be words, images, etc. in your presentation) -

“The Bond Between Pets and Children: A Review of the Literature on the Positive Impact of Pet Ownership on Child Development”
My assignment needs to speak about the relationship between pets and children. I included the method section of my paper to better help. In addition, my professor wants me to use in text citation in APA 7th edition on each of the paragraph for the literature review from the references. Whatever is used from the references, needs to be in your own words. Please do the best that you can. This is my last semester, and I am graduating on the 30th of May and i need this assignment no later than 8 a.m. on May 17th.

“Exploring the Biological Foundations of Human Development”
No reference necessary please, word document and very simple assignment. The book that I use is: A Topical Approach to Life-span Development 11th Edition and it’s on chapter 3.

“Exploring the Mind-Body Connection: My Experience with Yoga” “Exploring the Power of Le: A Journey Through the Intriguing French Word”
Choose a mind-body discipline that you have never done before (this may be Biofeedback, Hypnosis, Yoga, Meditation, Hemi-sync., etc.). you will practice this discipline first hand and blog about your experiences with it. There are a lot of things that are freely available on the internet (e.g., via youtube) and and other classes available in Carrollton (if you are local). Another thing to think about is to do a walking meditation (take a walk on the greenbelt or ), or a labyrinth meditation (we have a labyrinth at the Nursing school on campus!) or do some mindful coloring (there are many adult coloring books available both online and in bookshops).
Set up a blogThere should be 4 components to your blog. Make sure you label each subsection. You can write the different components at different times, as blog entries. The final submission should include a link to your blog site AND a word version of the content of your blog (copy and paste the words and save as a word document). Upload both the link and the word document into the assignment folder.
The first part should explore the reasons you chose the particular discipline, a good definition of the discipline and its claims in terms of the mind-body relationship. You can write from a personal perspective (i.e., use “I”). This should be 1-2 paragraphs in length.
Reflect on the nature of the experience; i.e., what your experience is like for you when you practiced your chosen mind-body practice. When you engaged in the practice, did you experience a different state of consciousness to your usual waking state? What about your sense of self in relation to your body? Did you find it easy to stick to the practice? Was it generally pleasant or unpleasant? Did you find that you were able to relax and follow instructions or become easily involved in the practice? This should be 1-2 paragraphs in length
Reflect on the impact of your experience with the mind-body practice. This might include reflections on how you felt following the practice, whether you noticed any impact of doing this practice in terms of your social relationships, whether there was any impact on your emotions and your mood, or your thoughts or ability to control your thoughts or feelings, your sleep, or other aspects of your life (e.g., your spirituality). This should be 1-2 paragraphs in length
Explore how prior research and theory fits with your observations. For this part, you will need to find at least 4 primary source materials to include. These should be articles that discuss or propose theories or which describe the results of a research study relevant to your own experiences with your chosen mind-body The sources should NOT be internet sources/blogs/Wikipedia or opinion pieces, but rather peer-reviewed articles that you locate by using library searching resources – for example, Psychiinfo or ProQuest Psychology in Galileo (see links to library searching resources in the resources folder). You should apply theory and research findings to your own observations. For example, if you noticed that yoga had a positive impact on your social relationships, you should do a search for articles that previously explored yoga and relationships or yoga and empathy or yoga and communication style (as some examples). If you noticed that yoga helped to reduce pain, you should search for articles that have previously explored yoga and pain. Etc. You should also think more about how the theories we have been exploring in class might apply to your observations. For example, did the mind-body practice help to make you think more positively, thus putting your mind-body system into a less stressful place and thus facilitating rather than hindering immune responses and promoting healing (e.g., after Candace Pert). This should be 1-2 paragraphs in length
The blog should be presented in clearly written and well-organized and illustrated with images, photographs (e.g., of you engaging in the mind-body practice) and some links, where possible (NB. Higher grades will be awarded for creativity in your blog). ALL of your sources should be clearly cited, ideally in APA style. -
Title: An Overview of Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, and Behaviorism: Theories of Learning Introduction Learning is a fundamental aspect of human behavior, and it is essential for understanding how individuals acquire new knowledge and skills. There are three
Objectives
Define classical conditioning
Define operant conditioning
Define behaviorism
Describe the principles of classical conditioning
Describe the principles of operant conditioning
Describe the principles of behaviorsim
Assignment Overview
There are three types of learning:
Learning through association – Classical Conditioning.
Learning through consequences – Operant Conditioning.
Learning through observation – Modeling/Observational Learning or Behaviorism.
For this assignment you are to write a one to two page research paper about the three types of learning.
Step 1: Research Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, and Behaviorism using your readings, the Internet, and at least one resource/article from LIRN. (LIRN is Cambridge College’s Online Research Database)
Library and Information Resources Network (LIRN)
To ACCESS LIRN click on the LIRN button found on the left-hand navigation button of our course. You may also go using the URL below.

Please note URL, Username, and Passwords are case sensitive
Step 2: Write an essay about Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, and Behaviorism
In the essay explain the origin of each theory of learning:
Who is the scientist(s) known for each?
What research did he/she do to demonstrate the theory?
Describe the similarities and differences of the three theories.
Explain how they are can be used in the classroom and/or advertising.
The essay must be one-two pages (double spaced 12-point font) using APA format to cite your sources. Remember one of your sources MUST be from LIRN. -
“Exploring the Impact of Self-Esteem on Conformity Behavior: A Social Psychological Research Proposal”
The final paper will be a research proposal based on the ideas of your research project assignment.
You will relate your research ideas to social psychological theories and research on the topic.
The paper will take the form of an abbreviated APA-style research proposal with a title page, introduction, method, results, discussion, and reference sections.
The paper should be 5 typed pages maximum (double-spaced, 12-point font, 1-inch margins, plus cite 2 references).
Order of the different sections:
1. Title page (page 1)
2. Introduction (begin on page 2)
3. Method (heading will be centered, flows
immediately after the Introduction)
4. Results (heading will be centered, flows
immediately after the Method)
5. Discussion (heading will be centered, flows
immediately after the Results)
6. References (heading will be centered, on a
separate page)
The paper will be a formal, scientific paper. It will be written using complete sentences and paragraphs. Do NOT use bullets, etc…
Avoid the use of the terms “I”, “me”, and “my”. For example, write “The independent variable will be manipulated by…” instead of “I will manipulate the independent variable by…”
Introduction
– Starts out broad and becomes more specific.
– Begin with a general introduction.
– State your research question. Why is it important?
– Discuss your theory/research and link it with other social psychological theories/research.
– Provide the reader with background information on your research topic.
– How is this study different from previous research?
– Make a case for why the proposed research is important.
– What will it contribute? How will it advance our knowledge of…?
– “The purpose of this study is to…” or “The present study is designed to investigate the…”
– State your hypothesis and the rationale for it (why you are making this prediction).
Method
Participants:
– Who? How many? Where and how will you recruit participants?
Design and Procedures:
– Describe the independent variable(s) and dependent variable(s).
– How will you manipulate your independent variable? What are the different groups of your independent variable? What will you do to 1 group that is different from the other group(s)?
– How will you measure your dependent variable? Will you observe/record participants’ behavior or ask them to complete a questionnaire? Provide details.
– Describe how you will set up or stage the experiment, the procedures, random assignment, and any instructions/information that participants will receive.
Results
Briefly describe how you will calculate the results or analyze the data (e.g., will you calculate averages, percentages, etc.) And summarize what you predict to find.
EX:
“The average conformity behavior of Group
1 and Group 2 will be calculated. Group 1 (the
high self-esteem group) is predicted to conform
less than Group 2 (the low self-esteem group).”
Discussion
Broadly evaluate your proposed research. What are the strengths and limitations of your experiment? No one study is perfect. Are there any ethical concerns about your procedures? How will you address these ethical issues and/or minimize potential ethical problems? You should touch back on the ideas that you mentioned in your introduction as well. End on a positive note. Remind the reader of the importance of the proposed research.
