For this assignment, you are tasked with selecting a mental health disorder and exploring the relationship between symptoms, intervention response, and the level of care for a specific mental health disorder of your choice. The objective of this assignment is to deepen your understanding of how symptoms inform the selection of appropriate interventions and determine the level of care required for individuals with the disorder.
    In your paper,
Describe the selected mental health disorder by identifying core symptoms and manifestations.
Choose a disorder that interests you and that you would like to explore further. Examples could include depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or any other mental health disorder of your choice.

“Lawnmower parenting strips away the vital lessons of resilience, problem-solving,
and self-reliance that are essential for a child’s growth and success in navigating
    life’s challenges.”
Agree or disagree with the above statement? Use your own ideas and opinions to

  • “Exploring Compassion, Well-being, and Wisdom: A Critical Analysis of the Attached Reading” “Grading Criteria for College Writing: Evaluating the Quality of Papers”

Write a 5 sentence and only 5 sentence paper about the attached reading
Writing Prompt: In your response, focus your analysis on the following questions: How does the reading help inform our three learning goals?
    Learning goals:
Experience and strengthen inner capacities for care, well-being, and wisdom
Examine psychological and systemic barriers to care
Envision and embody a more equitable world.
What does the perspective in the paper reveal about compassion, well-being, and wisdom? What does the perspective obscure, or in what ways is the perspective limited? You may apply your analysis to a concern that is of particular interest to you.
Examples of analytical questions that you could respond to:
How does the article change or deepen your thinking or perspective about compassion and well-being? Give detail to explain your statements and claims.
How would you apply the lessons of the article to enhance qualities of compassion and wisdom in a given setting (e.g., community, work-place, relationship)? Or to address a social issue that is of interest to you?
Are there concepts, lessons, findings, or theories from your other classes or research projects that say something different than the current article? If so, how do those other sources offer further understanding to the issues?
Is there something particularly difficult the article raises that you struggled to understand?
Is there something that you highly agree with or disagree with? If so, why?
0-1 pts Content: The paper does not come to terms with the assignment. Content areas are ignored or misconstrued, or there are major errors in the interpretation of psychological principles central to the assignment.
2 pts Content: The paper ignores several content areas or shows a misunderstanding of the principles involved.
Format: There is little development of ideas or no clear progression from one part of the assignment to another. There may be serious, frequent errors in reference citations, sentence structure, usage, & mechanics.
3 pts Content: The paper ignores one or more content area of the assignment but shows the writer’s ability to appreciate key ideas and principles.
Format: The paper is organized enough to allow the reader to move through it, but there may be disjointedness or lack of focus in some sections. The paper may contain errors in reference citations, mechanics, usage, and sentence structure.
4 pts Content: The paper slights one of the content areas of the assignment (e.g., not clear demonstration of understanding, lack of tie to literature, etc.). The writer demonstrates clear understanding of psychological principles involved.
Format: The paper is not as carefully organized or reasoned as a full credit paper, but it is organized into unified, coherent sections and is largely free from serious errors in reference citations, mechanics, usage, and sentence structure.
5 pts Content: The paper demonstrates that you were able to understand and critically evaluate the material and shows a clear understanding of the underlying psychological principles (as evidenced by citation to appropriate materials, e.g., course readings or connections with material from other courses, combined with own reflections and reactions).
Format: The paper shows careful organization and orderly thinking. The transitions between content areas are smooth; the paper may organize the content areas creatively to improve the readability of the paper; and the author may make thoughtful comments. It is virtually free from errors in reference citations, mechanics, usage, and sentence structure.
    Descriptions of Letter Grades
A paper (5 points): Perhaps the principal characteristic of the A paper is its rich content. Some people describe that content as “meaty,” other as “dense,” still others as “packed.” Whatever, the information delivered is such that one feels significantly taught by the author, sentence after sentence. The A paper is also marked by stylistic finesse: the phrasing is tight, fresh, and highly specific; the sentence structure is varied; the tone enhances the purposes of the paper. An A paper does not merely summarize, but provides original insights, analysis, and commentary. It does not merely paraphrase, but demonstrates the author’s original perspectives and thoughts. Finally, the A paper, because of its careful organization and development, imparts a feeling of wholeness and unusual clarity. Not surprisingly, then, it leaves the reader feeling bright, thoroughly satisfied, and eager to reread the piece.
B paper (4 points): It is significantly more than competent. Besides being almost free of mechanical errors, the B paper delivers substantial information–that is, substantial in both quantity and interest value. Its specific points are logically ordered, well developed, and unified around a clear organizing principal that is apparent early in the paper. The opening statement draws the reader in; the closing statement is both conclusive and thematically related to the opening. The diction of the B paper is typically much more concise and precise than that found in the C paper. Occasionally, it even shows distinctiveness–i.e., finesse and memorability. On the whole, then, a B paper makes the reading experience a pleasurable one, for it offers substantial information with few distractions.
C paper (3.5 points):  It is generally competent; it meets the assignment, has few mechanical errors, and is reasonably well organized and developed. The actual information it delivers, however seems thin and commonplace. One reason for that impression is that the ideas are typically cast in the form of vague generalities–generalities that prompt the confused reader to ask marginally: “In every case?” “Exactly how large?” “Why?” “But how many?” Stylistically the C paper has other shortcomings as well:  the opening statement does little to draw the reader in; the final statement offers only a perfunctory wrap-up; the sentences, besides being a bit choppy, tend to follow a predictable (hence monotonous) subject-verb-object pattern; and the diction is occasionally marred by unconscious repetitions, redundancy, and imprecision. The C paper, then, while it gets the job done, lacks both imagination and intellectual rigor, and hence does not invite rereading.
D paper (3 points): Its treatment and development of the subject are as yet only rudimentary. While organization is present, it is neither clear nor effective. Sentences are frequently awkward, ambiguous, and marred by serious technical errors.  Evidence of careful proofreading is scanty or nonexistent. The whole piece, in fact, often gives the impression of having been conceived and written in haste.
F paper (0-2): Its treatment of the subject is superficial; its theme lacks discernible organization; its prose is garbled or stylistically primitive. Mechanical errors are frequent. In short, the ideas, organization, and style fall far below what is acceptable college writing.

  • “Reflections on Personality Theories and the Influence of Culture on Personal Development”

This journal is a place for you to reflect on what you are learning in class. I would like you to think critically about the topics…tell me what you agree with or disagree with, what relates to you and how you can apply the ideas to your own life. This is NOT a summary of what you have read! The purpose of the assignment is to help you to make practical applications of the material as well as to connect it to things you already know to facilitate moving the information to long term memory. If you have questions that are more personal or that you do not feel comfortable asking in the public discussion forum (or if you want a response only from me), this is a great place to ask them. Each journal entry should be the equivalent of 1-2 pages (at least 500 words).
Specific prompts for this week include:
Look at your own culture and identify ways in which it may have affected your personality. How might your personality be different if you were raised in a different culture?
Identify similarities and differences between the many personality theories. Describe how we can use these theories in a complementary way to look at an individual’s personality.
What were the results of your Big 5 Personality Test or other tests you took in your Study Plan this week? Did you find it was a good measure of your personality? Look at the characteristics of a fully functioning person (Rogers). Which of these characteristics are you currently meeting and what characteristics do you need to continue to grow in? What is your plan to continue growing in the areas you need to?

  • Title: The Interplay of Nature and Nurture in Shaping Our Abilities and Traits As human beings, we possess a unique set of abilities and traits that make us who we are. These can range from physical characteristics, such as eye color

The “nature-nurture” debate has existed for many years. Contemporary psychologists emphasize the ways in which “nature” and “nurture” are intertwined, with each making a contribution to who we are and what we do. Current research also focuses on how “nature” and “nurture” interact, such that our genes, our experiences, and/or environments can influence each other. Consider one of your own abilities or traits (e.g., a personality trait, a physical characteristic, or a talent). What roles have “nature” and “nurture” played in producing your trait or ability? In what ways is your trait or ability the product of an interaction between “nature” and “nurture”?
In a multi-paragraph essay, describe your chosen ability or trait and discuss how “nature” and “nurture” might interact to produce this characteristic.
Include details from class materials, readings, and research to support your discussion.

  • “Exploring the Depths of Sexuality: An Introspective Journey”

Title of the paper: Introspecting on Sex
Basic description: For this introspection, you will examine your own definition of sexuality relative to the material that has been covered in class and in the readings and in the videos.
How are you going to do this? Use your best friends of inquisition: Who? What? Where? When? How? and Why?
You may use what Wilhelm Wundt, the father of psychology, called introspection. Introspection is the first method used in the science of psychology. And it is simply defined as “looking inward.” Who are you relative to sexuality? How do significant others influence your sexuality?
Another perspective you may use comes from Sigmund Freud. Freud’s psychoanalysis used psychoanalytic techniques such as dream analysis and humor interpretation to look inward and define who we are sexually.
Yet another perspective that you may use is that of William James, the father of American psychology. He developed the view of psychology called functionalism, which is concerned with measuring what humans “do.” So, what do you and others do relative to sexuality?
Questions you will be addressing within this introspection (answer at least seven of the following eleven questions while you are introspecting upon your definition of human sexuality):
Use your definition of human sexuality to address:
    (a) How do concepts such as communication and intimacy fit into sexuality?
    (b) What are the subjective, objective, and social/cultural elements of sexuality?
    (c) What impact do ethics/morals (from religion, government, science, etc.) have on your definition?
    (d) What are people actually doing (sexually) in spite of or because of societal rules?
    (e) The conflicts between ETHICS and MORALS.
    (f) How does your definition change (if at all) throughout the lifespan, for example: is it the same for a 3-year-old as it is for a 30-year-old as it is for a 70-year-old?
    (g) The concepts of LOVING, LIKING, and SOCIAL INTIMACY.
    (h) GENDER and SEXUAL ORIENTATION
    (i) SEXUAL DISORDERS: What is abnormal—sexually speaking—relative to your definition?
    (j) The Sexual Response cycle—how does pleasure and orgasm fit into your definition?
    (k) Pregnancy—how does pregnancy and birth control fit into your definition?
Put a perspective on it:  After you have answered these questions using your definition of human sexuality—what concluding comments do you have about your definition of sexuality and human sexuality in-general?
Format: The format of the paper is simple.
4 to 7 pages in length. Double spaced. 1 to 1.5 inch margins.  10 to 12-point font.
You may use any format for the paper. You may write it in the form of a letter to… You may write a poem. You may write it as a formal paper. You may write it as an informal paper…
Do NOT use jargon! Write the paper in your own words, using your own language.
The MAIN POINT of the paper is for YOU to learn something MORE about yourself by using this exercise.  You are NOT trying to TEACH ME about you — Instead; you are trying to TEACH YOURSELF about you.
Research shows that people spend very LITTLE time (less than 10% of the time that they’re awake) actually thinking about themselves. We spend MOST of our time worrying about OTHER things: people, places, objects, deadlines, jobs, etc.
This introspection is about you for you.
Be sure to separate your paper into individual paragraphs.
One STRICT format item is required. I want you to write an American Psychological Association Publication Manual, 7th edition formatted title page for the paper.
For examples of APA formatted papers, see: https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/research_and_citation/apa_style/apa_formatting_and_style_guide/general_format.html

  • “Gender: A Psychological Perspective – Exploring the Influences, Communicating the Impact, and Valuing Diversity” “The Power of Evidence: How Incorporating Literature Enhances the Value of Writing”

The Persuasive Argument Paper #1 is an integrative assignment that supports synthesis and the three course learning outcomes:
apply knowledge of cultural and historical influences, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings on conceptions of gender, gender roles, and gender similarities and differences to make informed decisions regarding human behavior
effectively communicate information about gender, gender roles, and gender similarities and differences to individuals, communities, and organizations
value diversity and different perspectives on gender, gender roles, and gender similarities and differences; tolerate ambiguity; and act ethically to interact appropriately with various sociocultural and international populations Objective: Write a well-developed argumentative essay on a topic of your choosing that specifically relates to concepts, theories, and issues introduced in this course. Submit a 3- to 5-page, APA style persuasive argument essay, that communicates how specific topics, theories, and research findings discussed in this course: 1) shaped your opinion on the topic and 2) support a psychological research-based argument designed to persuade others to share that opinion.
What an Argumentative Essay? The argumentative essay is a specific type of writing in which the author chooses
one side of an argument and supports the claim with evidence. The evidence is collected through research and used to reinforce the author’s
opinion and to develop arguments designed to persuade others to accept or adopt the author’s position. Instructions Summary: The principal steps for the assignment are…
Select an issue or dilemma of interest, inspired by the content of this course.
Review the pertinent literature. Decide on your perception; take a stance based on the consensus from the psychological literature you have reviewed (you will need to cite your sources throughout this paper).
Write and submit for grading a well composed, 3- to 5-page (APA style formatted) persuasive argument paper that …
Presents your perception in the form of a thesis statement.
Summarizes the issues; demonstrates an understanding of the controversy.
Defends/argues in favor of your perception using all psychological research and resources available.
Finishes with a strong summary statement that reinforces your thesis.
Proofread your work; use grammar/spellcheck functions.
    Revise; submit final draft.
    Constructing the Paper:
Your selected topic can revisit a psychology of gender question, issue or dilemma discussed in class, found within the empirical literature, or be one you have developed. Each approach will afford you the opportunity to synthesize information from the course
    Within the document…
    a. Introduce. Concisely introduced the reader to the topic.
Hook: Open the first paragraph with a “hook” statement. This is a brief introduction to a generally related topic that grabs the reader’s attention. (Usually 1-2 sentences in length.)
Anchor the introduction discussion with a clear, concise, and defensible thesis statement. The thesis statement should be a persuasive statement that introduces the reader to the topic, the position you will take, and how you will support that position within the essay. That is, your thesis should be specific, accurate, and arguable (i.e., seen from at least two points of view). The thesis statement is often positioned as the last sentence in the paper’s opening paragraph. The order of points made within the thesis often match the order of the arguments in the paper.
    b. Present your arguments. Within the body of the paper construct paragraphs that are dedicated to each argument. A useful (but not necessarily required) rhythm for building a paragraph in support of an argument is:
Topic sentence: Open with a persuasive statement that clearly explains a reason from your thesis that you intend to defend. * Example: Provide a concrete example that will show/prove your topic sentence. This is where evidence pulled from the literature will be valuable.
Explain: Do not assume the audience understands how the example connects to the topic sentence. Explain what examples prove within the context of your argument.
Closing sentence: provide a statement that demonstrates why the topic discussed in the paragraph is so important.
    c. Conclusions. In your conclusion review the points made. Do not just reword or repeat your thesis. Readdress it within the context of the provided evidence. Incorporate the “so what.” That is, close with a statement that calls your audience to do, change, or believe something. You can also close with a thoughtful statement on why the information discussed is important on a larger scale.
    * Construct logical transitions between paragraphs.
    d. Connect. Throughout the paper support assertions made. Express interrelated ideas coherently and logically. Anticipate your audience’s counter arguments or objections and address them. This is necessary for the essay to be truly persuasive. Responding to counter arguments and pointing out why they are not valid can be as important as presenting your own.
    e. Include sources. Incorporate information for the pertinent literature. The paper should include references from the text, outside reading assigned by your instructor, and relevant peer-reviewed psychological journals. A minimum of 3 peer-reviewed journal articles are required, in addition to the sources found within the course. The paper may also include material from other sources.
    f. Use Authorial Voice. Discuss materials in your own words and your own writing style and structure. Avoid excessive use of direct quotes. Doing so may incur a point penalty for each occurrence or not be accepted as content towards the page count.
    g. Apply APA Style**. Neatly and concisely present an APA formatted 3-5 page document containing
Title page (not included in the page count)
    Introduction
    Body
    Conclusions
References page (not included in the page count)
Properly formatted in-text citations and references
