  • Discussion Posts on Hypothesis Testing and Statistical Tests

Seven discussion posts/questions. Six discussion posts/questions.  The textbook used is Essentials of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences by Gravetter, F. J., Wallnau, L. B., Forzano, L. B., & Witnauer, J. E. (2021). Essentials of statistics for the behavioral sciences (10th ed.). Cengage. ISBN-13: 9780357365298. Read Chapters 10 and 11 in Essentials of Statistics for the Behavioral Sciences. Review Chapters 8, 9, 10, and 11 PowerPoint presentations. A substantive post is 150 words minimum, incorporates information from the course materials/readings or personal experience, and adds something new to the conversation that others can learn from.
DQ1: The first problem we confront in analyzing data is determining the appropriate statistical test. Under what circumstances is a t-statistic used instead of a z-score in a hypothesis test? Give an example of both a t-statistic and z-score.
DQ2: When hypothesis testing, when might you use one-independent sample t-test versus a two-independent samples t-test? Provide an example of each for a proposed research study.
DQ3: So, matched-subjects designs and repeated measures fall into the category of a related sample. How are they similar and how do they differ?
DQ4: What was the muddiest point from module 4? It needs to a concept that we covered in the past module such as the standard error. Make sure to be as specific as possible and illustrate with an example. You also need to show your work and/or explain it. If you don’t address all of these, you won’t earn participation credit for your response to this thread.
DQ5: How do your calculations differ when using SPSS for a paired versus unpaired t test? How is it similar? Note that there is not much difference in terms of how you use SPSS.
DQ6: What type of test might you be using if you are dealing with 3 or more independent samples? Hint: we have not done this respective test yet.
DQ7: It sure appears that statistically speaking, a related samples study would give most likely give us more valid results (or at least not less valid results). So why would you consider doing 2-independent samples test instead (assuming we need to do a 2-samples test)? Think about practicality in terms of real-life applications. Please make sure to tell me why.

  • “The Influence of Personality on Academic Performance: Personal Reflection and Application” “Exploring Reliable Online Resources for Referencing Sources in APA Format”

Over the past three weeks, you have been exposed to many concepts, theories, and terms related to psychology. Now is the time to make personal application to the concepts. This personal application of concepts learned is one of the things that makes psychology such an interesting area of study. Not all courses of study have such a direct application to our own lives. You will research and write about the following topics:
“To what extent does your personality influence your academic performance”
    1. Define/describe Personality and provide personal examples related to your own life. There should be NO quotes in this paper-paraphrase/summarize all material you learn.
2, Define/describe personality traits and provide personal examples related to your own life.
    3. How do your personality traits influence your academic performance? Also provide personal examples related to your own life.
    4. What approaches could you take to ensure success in your studies? Also provide personal examples related to your own life.
You will read and research at least four peer reviewed journal articles from the Online Library and then identify, discuss, and place this concept in proper context in your own life (If you are a consortium student, you will use your own school library). After you have identified this concept, you will then explain ways this concept can be applied to your own life with examples.  I hope you enjoy your research and this personal application.
Make sure to support each one with citations and references from your jpurnal articles and any other scholarly sourcess. Utilize the final paper temple below to ensure that your sections are set up correctly.

  • Title: Examining Media Coverage of a Global Event: A Comparative Analysis of Three News Sources

News stories are written in the Inverted Pyramid format. Stories are organized arranging factual information from most important to least important. This is very different from how we write in an English course. Journalism use what we call the 5Ws or who, what, when, where, and why. But, there is another element that is sometimes included is the elusive “H” or howan event is covered.
For this assignment, you will be examining how a particular event was covered.
You will need to use national news story to analyze. You can use a physical newsprint story, an online news article, news broadcast video, or social media news source. In fact, you must use and cite 3 different sources. You can analyze how the sources covered a global event (like global warming, economics, women’s rights, social justice, etc.) or you can look at a more targeted event . The news event that you choose is up to you. If you do decide on a local focus, you should use different local news outlets.
1.Find 3 or more media outlets that covered the same event.
    2. Make sure the coverage between the mediums is within 7-10 days.
    3. Think critically about how the different news organizations covered the event. How much space or time did the organization use? Was it a top story in all three? Who did they quote?
Did they use the same quotes or information?
Part 1: Introduction (10%): The introduction of your paper serves to lay out your ideas and pique the interest of your readers. Be brief but thorough. DO NOT use any personal pronouns in this section, stick to the facts. Try to end with your thesis or controlling statement.
Part 2: Literature Review (15%): Here is where you discuss the research sources included in the module AND any additional information and/or research that you found and their association, relevance, and relation to your topic. You should cover ALL the scholarship/resources that are important to the issue you are writing about. This should also contain direct or paraphrased quotes written to APA style guidelines. You MUST include viable and relative quotes.
Part 3: Analysis (15%): (your thoughts, feelings, opinions rooted in facts and examples from the texts, readings, videos, etc.): This is the most important part of the paper! Here is where you refer to and integrate your interpretation of the materials and resources. You can begin to use personal pronouns.
Don’t forget to cite the material.
Part 4: Conclusion (10%): Begin to discuss, evaluate, and analyze how the all the information that you have read, watched, and researched relates to each other. What have you concluded? How do those conclusions relate to your thesis or control statement?

  • “Facial Recognition Lab Results: A Comparison of Male and Female Performance”

You participated in the “facial recognition lab”. That exercise is the basis for the mini lab report. At the end of the exercise you were given a number of “hits” which is operationally defined as the number of correct responses.
The data below is your data set for your mini lab. For this assignment, you are the researcher. You gave the facial recognition lab to 40 students, 20 males and 20 females. The data set below contains the number of correct hits for each subject.
