“The Dangers of Social Media: Persuading for Responsible Usage”
Current Event/Persuasive Speech
You will give a 5-7 minute speech on any topic that is happening currently. Your speech topic can deal with issues happening locally, state, national, or international issues. Your topic must be controversial. One definition of controversy is a dispute, argument, or debate, especially one concerning a matter about which there is strong disagreement and especially one carried on in the public or in the press. Therefore, I do not want to hear speeches about why drinking and driving is bad or why we should recycle. These topics are important but not controversial. The point of the assignment is to persuade the audience to either act in a certain way or believe something that you believe in. Therefore, you should pick something that you feel passionate about and want to talk about. You are expected to have at least 5 sources. To receive credit for this speech, you must turn in a full-sentence outline.
