  • “Exploring the Impact of Intersectional Identities on Engagement with Large Systems: A Case Study Analysis” “Intersectionality Framework: Empowering Social Work Practice for Individual and Systemic Change”

    Assignment
    Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to have students engage in the use of HBSE theories and frameworks to assess and evaluate early childhood experiences on later development.
    Outcomes
CO 2: Apply conceptual frameworks and developmental theories in describing human development and behavior for young, middle, and later adulthood.
CO 4: Explain how biological, psychological, and sociological developmental dimensions affect one another throughout the lifespan.
    Requirements and Guidelines
You will construct a 4 – 5-page paper which must follow APA 7th Edition guidelines (professional version) and adhere to the academic integrity policy of the University. Please utilize the required readings for Module 2 and additional peer-reviewed journal articles (if needed) for this assignment.
Prior to beginning your writing, you need to identify an adult individual (current client, previous client, acquaintance, or relative) whom you have extensive knowledge of their life. This assignment will be difficult if you do not know an extensive amount about this person’s life. The person you identify must meet the following criteria:
The individual should currently have, or have had in the past a clear interaction with a larger system (e.g., medical system, school system, criminal justice system, child welfare system, social service system, public housing system, mental health system).
The individual should also identify with one or more groups impacted by historic and systemic oppression and/or discrimination (e.g., socioeconomic status, disability status, immigration status, race, ethnicity, mental health history, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, religious affiliation).
Please provide a brief introduction to the paper and an overview of your identified individual, the large system in question and why they engaged with this large system, and the quality of the engagement with that large system (helpful, not helpful, detrimental, discriminatory, supportive). Provide justification for your assessment of the quality of engagement with the large system.
Using Intersectional Theory assess the individual in terms of interactions with the large system that you identified.
Food for thought: How has each aspect of the individual’s intersectional identity impacted them throughout their life-span. Has it changed from young adulthood to their current age? Do you believe that aspects of their intersectional identity impact the way they engage with the large system, or conversely how they are treated by the larger system? Is their engagement with the larger system representative of how they engage with society as a whole?
Describe the geographical location (larger environment) that the individual resides in. Your description should include the geographic location (state, region of the US, urban, rural etc.…).
Food for thought: Is the impact of the individual’s intersectional identity further exacerbated by the geographic location where the individual resides? Describe how the individual interacts with their larger environment. Did their behavior or engagement with their larger environment change based on their engagement with the system? (e.g., they were rejected by the Veteran’s Administration for disability related health benefits thus creating a distrust of government systems).
Bringing it all together: Culturally responsive practice with respect to one’s professional perspective is required in the social work profession. You must maintain self-awareness about intersectional identities and how your perspective of those shapes our professional identity with implications for practice. For the final piece of this paper, you will need to critically reflect on your own intersecting identities and the potential for these to impact your practice.
Food for thought: Have your life experiences impacted your understanding of systemic oppression, and discrimination in our larger society and the larger system of focus? Social work is an action-oriented profession. How can an Intersectionality Framework assist you in analyzing issues and use this to make individual and systemic changes?

The paper should be No more than 15 pages in length double spaced (body of text, not including references and appendices) and should include the following major headings:
    I. Background, Study Rationale and Aims
    II. Proposed Methodology
    III. Proposed Data Analysis
    IV. Major Finding
    V. Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations
NOTE: As indicated by the APA Publication Manual, the paper must end with a reference section.  An abstract is optional in this paper.  At least seven scholarly works (journal articles, evaluation reports, and/or book chapters) must be referenced.
    Paper Sections/Major Headings
    I. Background, Study Rationale and Aims [1 – 2 pages].  Begin with a problem statement that identifies the issue the study proposes to examine.  Follow this with a brief section on the study rationale; why should this study be conducted, and what is its significance?  How will the study be important to the target population, the community, the larger society, etc.?  Remember, the objective here is to convince readers/funders of the need for the study.  Be succinct but also strive for impact and incorporate relevant statistics and data that highlight the need to study the issue identified in the problem statement.  Close this section with the study aim(s), research question(s), and hypothesis(-es).
II. Proposed Methodology [3 – 4pages].  In this section, address how the study will be conducted.  The following bullet points are intended to guide the content of the methodology section:
    • Describe and justify the study design.  Be specific.  For example, is the design quasi-experimental or experimental? Is it retrospective, cross-sectional, longitudinal, etc.?  Will there be a comparison group/control group, and how will that group be constructed?  Be sure to explain the choice of study design; why is it the most appropriate for the study?  Moreover, address issues and threats to internal and external validities.
    • Describe the sample (human participant characteristics) and recruitment strategies.  What type of probability or non-probability sampling will be employed and why?  What will be the source of the sample and the number of participants?
    • Lay out the data collection procedures.  What steps will be taken, and by whom, to collect data and provide informed consent?  What specific data will be collected, from whom, and for how long?  Articulate how the chief study variables will be operationalized and measured.  Address the reliability and validity of measurement tools.  Propose the use of at least one existing scale/measurement, identify it by name and report on its reliability and validity as noted in the literature (including the citation of such indicators as Cronbach’s alpha, etc.).  For those variables where an instrument is not readily available, indicate the concepts that need to be measured and be clear about how these concepts will be observed.  Be sure to identify the level of measurement of the variables.  Issues of reliability and validity should be addressed for these measurement approaches, as well.
III. Proposed Data Analysis Plan [1 – 2 pages].  In this section you need to address the data analysis plan. What kind of data you have collected, how do you plan to analyze?
    a. Quantitative, Univariate, and Bivariate Analysis: indicate what kind of variables you collected, and you intend to analyze, what test you will be using to answer your questions and test your hypothesis, and what kind of indicators you will be looking for.
    b. Qualitative: Content analysis, thematic analysis, and coding. Indicate what approach you will be utilizing to look for patterns in the data, what indicators you would be looking for and what evidence supports your findings.
    V. Major findings [3 – 5 pages] in this section you will need to report on the major findings from the collected data/secondary data based on the proposed analysis in the previous section. For instance, whether you were using quantitative or qualitative analysis approach you will need to report on the major characteristics/ demographics of your targeted population, for instance, age, income, education level, race, ethnicity, household type and size, incarceration history, history of mental illness, etc…
Whether you were using an open-ended or a close-ended questionnaires/surveys, interviews “structured, unstructured, or semi structured” focus groups, and/or observation “direct, indirect, participatory”
Quantitative:  The following section should include the findings form the major test that you conducted to test your hypothesis, report the significance value and state your decision whether your hypothesis/hypotheses were accepted or rejected.
Quantitative: The following section should include the findings form the major patterns, themes and or codes that you have determined based on the collected data, you will also need to support your findings with anecdotes and quotes from the data, or numbers from examined records, and secondary data.
VI. Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations [1 – 2 pages].  Discuss the major findings from the previous section and explain whether your research question(s) were answered and why. Moreover, explain your findings from your hypothesis testing, for instance, if your hypothesis were accepted or rejected what does that pertain to. In addition, discuss and explain whether your findings were consistent with the findings from the literature and why? What do you conclude from that? Finally, end this section and your study with some recommendations based on your literature review and your study findings.
Submit the final proof-read draft of your paper in Word Format.  Cite at least seven different scholarly sources and use APA format throughout the paper.
*I already have most of the paper written. I would like assistance with condensing and revising the topic to make more sense. Data may be needed as well but I would like to keep research qualitative if possible.

  • Title: Policy Skills Library: Video Demonstration and Handout Assignment

Write the transcript for this project:
POLICY SKILLS LIBRARY: VIDEO DEMONSTRATION + HANDOUT
The Policy Skills Library is a collection of demonstrations of policy skills from students across sections of SLWK 606. The Policy Skills Library is accessible to all SLWK 606 students and should be used as an invaluable resource for learning about relevant material that goes beyond our course content.
This assignment involves peer teaching, professionalism, and accuracy. You will develop a 6 minute video demonstration of a skill to be shared to the Policy Skills Library. You are welcome to choose from a range of strategies or topics as long as it is relevant to the policy practitioner.  You are required to take this assignment further than the assigned course readings, but feel free to use them as a jumping off point.
    WHAT IS THE FINAL PRODUCT?
You’ll create a video with closed captioning, handout including references, title, keywords, description, and a signed consent form, all documented in a Google Form.
For information on creating a high quality video, review this tips sheet.Links to an external site.
What makes a good topic? This video covers how to choose a good topic.Links to an external site.
What goes in the video? Explain the skill in detail, relate it to the course material and to the policy process, and demonstrate how it can be applied to a specific group of people, in a specific scenario, or some other form of application and demonstration. Bring in material from additional sources (you’ll have to since this is going beyond the course material). You must include closed captioning or a transcript of the video for accessibility purposes.
What goes in the handout? The handout is a professional and visually appealing takeaway item (document, pdf, or Cavna product for example) with the main points and references in APA that were covered in the demonstration. This will be submitted for your classmates to view alongside the video.
Who will see my video?  The video will be available to all students across sections in SLWK 606, including you! Watch them!  You will do a reaction post to videos (see: Skills Response) and will have to include them in your Policy Ecosystem projects.
What if I don’t want to include my face and/or voice in the recording? If you have concerns about sharing your identity in the Policy Skills Library, you have options! Some alternative submission options are to:
Present using a screencasting software with just a voiceover audio track, or slides without audio.
Use an animation tool. Here are some good options. Links to an external site.
Use a multimedia tool like Stop Motion StudioLinks to an external site. to get your information across instead of using your voice or image.

I also recommend reviewing the “Guidelines for Using AI.”

  • Confidentiality Statement and Critical Analysis on the Impact of Intervention in Social Work Practice Confidentiality Statement: In accordance with the ethical standards of social work practice, I have taken necessary measures to ensure the confidentiality of individuals discussed in this portfolio. “Empowering Practice: Reflecting on Knowledge, Skills, and Participation in Social Work”

    1. Confidentiality Statement (up to 200
    words, not academically graded)
    Students
must complete a confidentiality statement of around 200 words to be submitted
via Moodle with the academic elements of the portfolio. In this statement the,
student must clearly state the method they have used to ensure that people
discussed in the portfolio cannot be identified.
    Guidance:
The right to confidentiality of people who use services must be rigorously
respected at all times. It is essential to ensure that individuals cannot be
    identified from documents.  Omitting
surnames is not sufficient, and will be completely irrelevant where first
names, dates of birth or other details are still included.
    The following guidelines must be
    adhered to in all cases.
    Real
names of people who use services or even their initials should never be
    included.
    Other
than in the learning agreement, the names of colleagues in the placement
agency should only be included with their written consent.
    Actual
dates of birth should never be included.
(Ages may sometimes be relevant, but need not always be exact).
    Best
practice is for students / s and Practice Educators to agree a reference e.g.
“Child A” or “Adult B” at the start of a piece of work and to use this in
all notes, etc. that are not being kept for agency purposes.
    Documents/records
that are not fully anonymised must not be removed from the agency.
    When
anonymising work for your evidence portfolio, no confidential/personal
information should be visible AT ALL. If you are blotting out documents
with black markers-these can still be transparent when held to the light
for example. Consider taking a photo copy and using this for your file.
    All
    memory sticks must be encrypted
    Students
must follow agency policies and procedures regarding the storage and movement
of agency documents, and should take similar care of documents, such as
portfolios, assignments and reports, to ensure that they are not lost or
stolen, e.g. on public transport or from cars.
    2. Critical Analysis on the impact of
Your Intervention (3,000 words) case study
    This
case study is an academic assignment and will need to be seen by the Practice
Educator and then submitted at the end of your placement via Turnitin.  It will be marked by your college tutor.
The case study may refer to work with
an individual person using services, a family or a group. We would recommend
that you discuss your choice with your practice educator in order to ensure the
case you choose is suitable. It must also demonstrate your understanding of
relevant theory and knowledge (including law) and your ability to apply it in
    practice.
You may want to consider the following
to help you in your selection of a piece of work:  Analyse the reason for your involvement and
role; be careful about the case you choose, try to avoid the most complex
pieces of work as they may be difficult to write about in a focused way.  You could choose to write about a particular
part of your work with a case e.g. just focus on your work with one child
rather than looking at all the work you did with the different members of a
family, or you could look at the first meeting you had with a service
user.  Make it clear in your introduction
that this is the strategy you are adopting and why.
Remember that your case study is not
intended to be a simplistic description of a piece of work, but rather a
critical analysis of practice that illustrates your purposeful use of your
    practice skills and values.
    Include
how you have used professional judgement and managed risk.  It is also about showing how you have applied
knowledge from literature and research; therefore, you should make it clear how
you have used knowledge to inform your practice.  You should make explicit reference to
articles, books and other sources of knowledge and you should reference these
appropriately (as you have had to do in your academic assignments).
    The structure:
    The
summary should be set out in a methodical way:
    At
the beginning – in no more than 200 words, give an overview of the agency
context of your practice including relevant legislation. This will not be
included in the word count. You may wish to include a genogram.
    An
introduction, briefly defining the piece of work chosen and reflective
    model.
    Analysis
of the initial reasons for your involvement and role
    An
analysis of how you prepared for the work
    An
analysis of how you assessed needs
    An
outline and analysis of the planning undertaken
    An
explanation and analysis of the form of intervention carried out
    An
evaluation of the work so far including a consideration of how you used
supervision and your reflections on your learning from this piece of work
    You
should have referred to the legislative background earlier but there are likely
to be specific points of law that you will need to refer to when analysing your
    practice.
*My chosen case study is a young person i have worked with in school on a project called online harms the session I worked with her on was what is real vs what is fake which i put together an interactive powerpoint. she interacted and ingaged real well the purpose was to help her be more critical of what she see online that just because you see it or read it does not make it real.*
    3. Knowledge and Skills Essay (1,000
    words)
    Identify
three to four examples from your practice which give evidence of your progress towards meeting the
requirements as outlined in the Chief Social Worker’s Knowledge and Skills
    (KSS) Statements.
You will need to choose the KSS statement for either
adults or children and families depending on your placement setting.  In this piece, you should refer to evidence of
your direct work with individuals, carers and families.  Link to theory and legislation.
    4. Choice control and participation
    essay (1,000 words)
In preparation for this piece of work refer to PCF
domain 4 “Rights and Justice” and PCF domain 8 “Contexts and
Organisations”.   In 1,000 words critically analyse how the
placement agency engages with the views of people who use services in order to
    consider power and oppression.
    This section should include:
    ·
An analysis (1,000 words) looking at the
experience of inclusion and empowerment of people who use services and/or
carers, identifying the efficacy of the approaches highlighted throughout your
    placement.
    ·
Consider to what extent people who use
services are involved in directing the service at both an individual and
    strategic level
    ·
Outline some of the challenges inherent in
attempts to involve people who use services including ethical dilemmas and how
    these can be addressed.
    All pieces other than the
confidentiality statement are graded and must, therefore, adhere to academic
writing standards. As the pieces refer to your own practice you may refer to
    yourself in the first person.
    Work
must be referenced as per the Bradford College referencing guide and include a
    full reference list.  References should
be included at the end of the submission rather than after each individual
    essay.
