You have recently started working for a local department store in the Operations Department. Upon settling into your new position, you come to realize that they have outdated business practices. As a department, you and your peers begin to discuss changes that your store could make to help the store become more profitable and more competitive in the marketplace. This leads to discussions about the evolution of business practices at larger corporations such as Apple, Microsoft, Kohl’s, etc. Partway through your discussion, your Director of Operations comes in and joins the conversation. He likes what he is hearing and starts to brainstorm out loud with the group how your store can get “more with the times.”
Knowing that every change within an organization is made for a specific reason, your director asks that you research some of the key theoretical perspectives that would explain how and why organizations change. Because of your sociological prowess from your days in school, you know that you can apply Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory to the reasons for organization change, but your supervisor has asked for a minimum of three theories that would support change.
In addition to conducting research on theoretical perspectives for change, your supervisor would like you to put together some sort of visual representation that demonstrates how each of the theories explains organizational change, and then highlight the one that you think is most applicable to your store. You will be presenting your visual presentation to store management in an effort to provide them information so that they can determine the avenues of change that are most appropriate for your store. Because your supervisor sees the value in the changes to the organization, he has encouraged you to create a presentation that will grab the attention of the audience and that includes both pictorial and written information so that all the audience can easily envision the application of the change to your environment.
MUST HAVE VISUAL 
For this presentation you are to reflect and address the following information/questions:
• Provide a brief definition of Conflict Theory.
• Provide a brief definition of Symbolic Interaction.
• What changes have been made in various aspects of society (work, school, shopping, etc.)? Explain them through the lens of Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory.
• How do Conflict Theory and Symbolic Interaction Theory explain or impact organizational change?
• Identify at least one other sociological theory, and demonstrate how it applies to organizational change in our society.
• Of the three identified theories (Conflict, Symbolic Interaction, and the theory of your choice), which theory do you believe best explains organizational changes in our society? Consider various aspects of the organizations that change i.e. technology, online, and face-to-face transactions, local versus global operations, etc.

You are working for a local department store in the Operations Department. You notice that their business practices and use of technology are not up to date. One day while working, you are having a discussion about technology and identity formation with your supervisor. Your supervisor continues to explain that individuals and organizations have digital identities that are formed and impacted through various methods. Your supervisor continues, saying, “They can develop or change through social media, positive or negative press, word of mouth, and so on.”
You begin to understand that the digital footprint of a business or organization can greatly impact their success or failure due to many factors, including the rapid dissemination of information that can occur digitally.
Your supervisor, through the course of the discussion, acknowledges that you are very fluent in the area of digital identity and asks you to conduct research and create a visual presentation explaining how digital identity is formed for both individuals and organizations. Your supervisor says, “This visual presentation will be presented to not only me, but company stakeholders and your coworkers in order to help them understand how identity is formed, and how to best maximize digital identity to contribute to the overall success of our store.”
Your supervisor continues, saying, “From this presentation, decision makers will be able to work on identity management and can then implement digital strategies in order to maintain or improve the store’s identity. In the end, this is intended to help increase exposure to the store, enhance the customer base, and the overall success of the store. The visual representation should be interactive and informative and can be presented in any visual format that you choose.”
For this research and presentation, you are to reflect upon and address the following topics:

Consider your emotional intelligence further through taking a closer look at your personality. Often, a person’s emotional intelligence can greatly affect how they view themselves, others and also how they manage emotions. Knowing your personality type can make you aware of your level of emotional intelligence while helping you become more open to others and to your own emotions.
To complete the assignment, you must first take the online Jung Typology and Meyers Briggs personality test. The test can be found in the Week 3 Readings and Resources.
Once the test is complete, take notice of the 4-letter personality type that you have been given.
Carefully study your particular 4-letter personality type further through the website links provided in the Week 3 Readings and Resources.
Once you have completed the questionnaire, you will write a short reflection paper, 1-1.5 pages in length. Please provide the following:

What was your personality type? Give an overview of the results.
Body of Paper
What were your personality strengths and weaknesses?
Conclusion
How can managing your personality boost your emotional intelligence?
Reference page
Be sure to list your textbooks as a reference along with any other material you might have used as a source when discussing your results.

The answer to each question should be roughly 1-2 paragraphs long.  In total, you should expect to write roughly 2-3 pages, but 250 words should be the minimum.
1.    What is the research question the authors are asking? (1-2 sentences is fine here)
2.    Why is this question important to society? (Your opinion matters here, but also bring in any reasons the authors give.)
3.    Outline the author(s) research methods. Identify the method(s) used and why they chose these methods. Explain the advantages and limitations of this method for studying the topic being addressed. (Note: the authors themselves may identify advantages/shortcomings, but you can also review information from the textbook Appendix to help you answer this question)
4.    Summarize the article’s major findings. (Be specific: don’t just say “more discrimination” if you can say “X times more likely” instead.)
5.    Consider the principles of research ethics discussed in the textbook Introduction and Appendix. What ethical considerations did the authors need to weigh in designing and conducting this research? (The authors may or may not discuss this topic directly. If you have no direct evidence, discuss the general principles the authors needed to address for their particular study. Remember that ethics are a consideration for all researchers, even when they are “just” analyzing other, already published research results.)
6.    How does this article help you personally understand the topic better? (This question is all about you and your experience/opinion.)

For this option you are to take an event that has happened or is happening and explain it sociologically. So, the sociological imagination should be used for this. Think about that as you analyze this. How did/does the intersection of history and biography and any other relevant social forces coalesce to form this event or phenomenon? This should inform your analysis. What social forces are at work? 
Analyze a major event sociologically. Analyzing something sociologically is very different than reporting your opinion. In fact, please leave out any opinion and instead analyze the event using course concepts and theories. This is how to analyze something sociologically. Sociology is adept at explaining society today, as such, it is a good idea to not choose a historical event.
Be sure to include the following questions in your analysis (but do not be limited to just these items): 
Why did this happen from a sociological perspective? This is a complicated question that requires a nuanced discussion of intersecting social forces, sociological concepts and sociological theories. It is a macro question for sure!
What social context did it occur in? (for example rising hate crimes against Asian Americans in the wake of COVID-19 weren’t new; there’s a long history of this in The United States). This is where you detail the history leading up to this event/phenomenon. That is, using the sociological imagination, what are the intersections between the history and the biography? 
How many are affected annually by the problem (if this applies)?
Use sociological vocabulary, course concepts and sociological theories like functionalism, conflict theory, intersectionality and symbolic interactionism. Thoroughly explain your ideas.
Which sociological theory(ies) best explains this event? Does it take multiple theories? Theory and course concepts should take up the bulk of your paper. The sociological analysis is everything. 

Please write a 4-5 page paper answering the following question.   Please make direct reference to the assigned readings, films, and lectures throughout your paper but keep word-for-word quotes to a minimum.  Do NOT use any sources or references other than the above. Do provide a “Reference Page” and any needed citations using APA style so that I know which assigned readings, films, and lectures you are using in your paper. 
Use you OWN words and thoughts, and state your argument clearly, then back it up and explain it fully.

Units 3 and 4 naturally fall together as racial equality and race liberation movements in the US (like voting rights drives in the south 60 years ago or the Black Lives Matter movement of the last 15 years) are both inspired by and, in turn, inspire anti-colonial movements in other parts of the world. Unit 3 focuses on some key features of those movements in the US — on the life and history or John Lewis who went from being an activist and political organizer to being a highly respected legislator and on the fictional but very sympathetic story of an African American high school student who has to straddle different worlds and perspectives when her life is rocked by avoidable violence. Unit 4 focuses on the history of South Africa’s anti-Apartheid movement. Many of the best known actors in that movement — Stephen Biko, Nelson Mandela — had reputations as dangerous revolutionaries before they came to be seen as the courageous freedom fighters we now remember them as. They did want a revolution, but destroying the Apartheid regime would have been dangerous to the fortunes and privileges of the protected white, colonial minority in South Africa at that time. 
For this paper, I would like you to choose one or two aspects of overlap between these two units. You could focus on events – maybe the killing of Stephen Biko and the killing of George Floyd and the aftermaths of those events. You could focus on activist figures like John Lewis and Nelson Mandela. You could choose some other part of these histories. Please tell me all you have learned about the aspects you choose, and write about how these movements are similar or different. How do you see colonialism and struggles against colonialism as related, or not related, to racial justice movements in the US. What do you see as key to the success or failure of these movements? What factors energize the social movement and bring people together even when protesting is dangerous? Do you have any criticisms of these movements?
