Title: Using the Normal Distribution and Confidence Intervals to Analyze BMI Differences Between Smokers and Non-Smokers

Part 1: Using the Normal Distribution
Given that BMI is approximately normally distributed, present the following summary statistics for BMI of smokers and nonsmokers in the table below.
    Smokers Non-smokers
    Mean
    Standard Deviation
    Sample size (n)
Use this table to answer the following questions based on your individual data. Compute probabilities based on the normal distribution. For each portion write a 1-sentence explanation as to how Excel was used to assist you in your computations.
Find the percent of smokers expected to have a BMI of greater than 25 (overweight).
Find the percent of nonsmokers expected to have a BMI of less than 18.5 (underweight).
A normal BMI range is between 18.5 and 24.9. What percentage of smokers are expected to be within this range? What percentage of nonsmokers are expected to be within this range?
A researcher is interested in which BMI represents the 90th percentile (where 90% are at this BMI level or lower). What BMI score represents the 90th percentile cut-off rate?
    Part 2: Creating Confidence Intervals
Using the information from Part 1 (above), calculate a 90%, 95%, and 99% confidence interval for both groups. Then, complete the following table:
Group 90% Confidence Interval 95% Confidence Interval 99% Confidence Interval
    Smokers
    Non-smokers
Use this table to answer the following questions based on your individual data.
As the level of confidence increases, what happens to the width of the confidence interval? Does it increase or decrease? Explain one (1) reason why this would happen.
Using the 95% confidence interval, compare the BMI of smokers versus nonsmokers. Write a 2- to 3-sentence paragraph explaining if these intervals overlap or not. What does the comparison indicate regarding the differences in BMI between the two groups?
Explain, in 1–2 sentences, one situation in which you (as a researcher) may choose a 99% confidence interval? A 90% interval? Fully justify your choice.

“Understanding HFFA’s Business Model: A Comprehensive Analysis and Strategic Recommendations”

PATH B Demonstration of Conceptual Understanding
    PLUS Final Stage
You are provided a pdf KEY for HFFA, including pages
showing all tables completed that lead up to the Matrix Map, as well as the
final Matrix Map itself.  You also
have the textbook description of the analytical process including the Everest
Environmentalists example, plus the complete worked Excel example for
Everest Environmentalists which you can explore along with the book to
understand what is happening. Drawing on these resources, YOUR JOB for Path B
is to write an explanatory document, organized with HEADINGS FOR EACH TABLE
in the key (you don’t have to include the tables, just number them the same way
they are shown in the key), in which you explain to the Board and CEO what kind
of information is in each table, what data were used to create it, why the
table is important, and why it is needed to move towards a greater
understanding of the overall business model (ultimately reflected in the Matrix
Map.) Explain things in plain language and in context given what you understand
about HFFA, just like you are talking to the board and CEO; do not just string
together quotes from the book — that will not impress them as they are paying
for your expertise and understanding. For each table you should have at least
3-4 sentences but for the Determination of Full Costs table as well as the
Mission Impact table you will definitely need more than that to do a good job –
probably two paragraphs for each.  For
the Mission Impact table you can do a little “creative reconstruction” on how
the aggregated mission scores shown were arrived at (since that should have
been done through a group process involving stakeholders, as described in the
book) – you can simply summarize a reasonable and feasible process as if it
happened. Watch out for pages that might have more than one table on them.
Prepare your document in single-space with headings for each table. Your whole
Part A if single-spaced shouldn’t need to be longer than about 3 pages maximum.
Once you have completed the narrative with headings and
explanations for every table leading up to the Matrix Map in a Word document, then
move on to the FINAL STAGE described below, which everyone must
complete regardless of path. Include your Final Stage narrative at the end of
the Word document you already created. You will upload one (1) file to
the dropbox for this assignment, which will include your narrative describing
the stages of analysis (resulting in the Tables and the Matrix Map) and also,
at the end, the Final Stage where you interpret the Matrix Map for the board
    and CEO as described below.
    **** AND
    (EVERYONE MUST DO) ****
FINAL STAGE – Everyone completes this
    in Word
Finally, having completed either Part A or Part B, everyone
must write a narrative based on the Matrix Map for HFFA included in the pdf
Key. Write up the talk you would give the board and CEO about their current
business model as revealed by the Matrix Map AND summarizing your
recommendations for strategy moving forward given the information revealed.
Length should be about 750-1,000 words. Reflect both your understanding of the
readings for Modules 5 and 6, including the Bell, Masaoka and Zimmerman (2010) book
as well as your understanding of the HFFA context described in the scenario
earlier in this document and revealed through the analysis. Communicate as if
you were in fact dealing with your nonprofit leadership audience (professional,
layperson style), not as if you are writing to me (academic style). Write
clearly and professionally but do not condescend or be overly casual. Those who
chose Path A (Excel) will upload this document as a second file along with
their Excel file to the dropbox. Those who chose Path B (Conceptual) can
include the Final Stage as the last part of their Word document, and upload
just that one Word document to the dropbox. No one needs to upload the PDF
key,  I have that already .

“Using Descriptive Statistics to Inform Resource Allocation for Campus Crime Prevention in California” Introduction: Dear Attorney General of California, I am writing to present the results of a descriptive analysis of campus crimes in California in 2018. As you are aware, “Addressing Campus Burglary: Using Descriptive Statistics to Inform Allocation of Funds” Identifying Outliers in University Data Using Z-Scores

    Purpose
In the last couple of decades and currently, we have been experiencing a paradigm shift from using our subjective experience to using objective data to inform justice decision-making. Learning descriptive statistics is “fun,” but the ultimate purpose of conducting descriptive research and conducting descriptive analyses is to use the result to inform justice decision-making.
In this assignment, you will be provided with a 2018 FBI UCR dataset, an output with all the descriptive statistics as well as the visualization of the measurements of crimes that happened on university campuses in the state of California. Then, you will use these materials to write a short report to the attorney general of California, discussing how to allocate resources to deal with these crime problems. Please pay attention to the following instructions.
    Values:
This assignment will help you to become familiar with the following values in this discipline:
The data and empirical evidence are usually utilized to inform criminal justice and public health practices to enhance public safety.
Decision-making is a process in which researchers contribute to public discord by producing reliable and accurate results.
The final subjective decisions to inform practice may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but the scientific facts remain objective.
    Knowledge:
This assignment will also help you to become familiar with the following important content knowledge in this discipline:
    Descriptive analyses statistics
Mean, Median, S.D., S.E. Minimum, Maximum, Confidence Interval, Skewness, Kurtosis, Range and Variance.
    Skills:
The skills students will learn are how to use SPSS statistical software
    to manage data and variables
to perform the approximate descriptive analyses based on the level of measurement of the variables
to create a visualization of the results
to present the results to a state official or the public
    Method:
This assignment will help you to practice the following problem-solving method(s) that are important in the criminal justice discipline:
Identify the “problem” or focus that your discipline is concerned with.
In criminal justice practice, reducing crimes demands criminal justice professionals identify where most of the crimes happen in a given period of time.
How does this problem relate to your discipline’s values?
The problem we are dealing with speaks directly regarding how to use empirical evidence to identify the “hot spots” of crimes and allocate limited resources to the hot spots to maximize the utility or efficacy of criminal justice practices.
Why does your discipline use these particular methods as the means to solve these problems?
The field of criminal justice uses the following tasks or methods because it relies on empirical and scientific evidence to inform practices, which is a superior method to using ideology politics, which did not in the reduction of crimes. On the contrary, the non-scientific methods have created many more unintended consequences and social harms, such as mass incarceration.
    Tasks:
    1. Download the FBI UCR Data (Assignment 1 – California Universities) Download Download the FBI UCR Data (Assignment 1 – California Universities). You find the following variables in the dataset, but we will not use all of them for conducting analyses.
The “University” variable indicates the name of the college.
Note: This is a sample (N=50) of all the colleges in California. The 50 colleges are randomly selected into this data.
The “Student_Enrollment” variable describes the number of students enrolled in each college in 2018.
The “Burglary” variable is the raw total number of burglaries on university campuses.
The “Burglary_Per_Capita” variable is a rate variable that indicates the number of burglaries per 100,000 people.
In other words, it is a standardized measure of the burglary rate.
We create this variable because campuses with more students will naturally have more crimes.
Therefore, we will create a rate variable to eliminate the influence of the number of students enrolled.
This is how the variable is created: (Burglary/Student_Enrollment)*100,000
This rate variable is a better estimation of the seriousness of the crime problems on campus because it is a standardized measure.
The “ZBurglary_Per_Capita” variable represents the z-score for the “Burglary_Per_Capita” variable.
    2. Perform all the types of descriptive analyses and create a histogram with a curve on the variable “Burglary_Per_Capita.”
I know some of you might not be able to do so right now because we do not have university resource access. If you can perform them on your PC, please practice performing all the necessary analyses on the variable “Burglary_Per_Capita.” If not, you can download this PDF document
    Actions
(Ignore the information in the Notes Box in the PDF), which contains all the same results and visualizations.
    3. Report and interpret the results for the following descriptive statistics.
Evaluate the variability of the data by examining Minimum, Maximum, Range, and S.D.
Examine the normality of the data by using skewness statistics and histograms.
Report and interpret the Median and Mean, then choose either one to represent the data.
Note: The data is not normally distributed; however, we will complete the rest of the tasks by assuming the normality of the sample,
Use the Mean to represent your sample, and then evaluate the representativeness of the sample by using S.E. of the Mean.
Identify the outliers using the z-score.
Estimate the true mean of the university population by using the Confidence Interval.
    4. Make a decision based on the stats used, reports created, and interpretations made above.
You are proposing to allocate 100,000 dollars to address the burglary problem on campuses.
You are required to write a short memorandum to the California State general attorney by using the report with the interpretations of the descriptive stats you just completed above.
Note: Be sure to include your estimation of the true population mean by using your 95% C.I. statistic.
In the memorandum, you should also discuss the reasons regarding how to allocate 100,000 dollars to which campuses.
You can give 100,000 dollars to one college, or you can divide the budget and give the money to multiple colleges.
In your decision, you might want to consider identifying the “outliers” that have serious burglary problems.
Note: This is a good place to use z-scores to identify extreme cases/colleges that have more than the usual number of burglaries.
You should not discuss what you will do with the money. Instead, this assignment only concerns which college or colleges should receive the money and how much.
This is an open-ended question. However, your decision has to be made based on an empirical understanding of the burglary problem on California college campuses.
Final Note: Because we use the variable “Burglary_Per_Capita” for our analyses, you are advised to use the appropriate language. For instance, every time you discuss the crime problem, you should clearly use the phrase “number of burglaries per capita” instead of “number of burglaries” because we conducted the analyses with the variable “Burglary_Per_Capita.”

“Improving Caregiver Burden and Quality of Life for Family Caregivers of Terminally Ill Patients: A Synthesis of Evidence on the Effectiveness of Support Groups”

A synthesis is a type of literature review in which you weigh the evidence and reach a single overall conclusion to answer your EBP question(Among family caregivers of terminally ill patients receiving hospice care does participation in a caregiver support group compared to no participation in a support group improve caregiver burden and quality of life) To do this you must (1) appraise each study (source of evidence) separately that you are referencing and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of that evidence.  In that appraisal, make sure that you include pertinent details about the study (instruments used, analysis, findings) as well as the overall findings as they apply to your EBP question.  If there are additional findings, that don’t apply to your question, it is not necessary to include those findings. Then you must (2) compare and contrast the evidence across sources [or, “synthesize” the evidence] (e.g., “Five studies concluded that this intervention was beneficial.  One study did not support this conclusion because _____.  Possible reasons for this discrepancy include ____.”).
In your discussion and overall conclusion, it is important that you address gaps in the literature or any points of disagreement / discordance in findings across studies, and consider what might be contributing to those disparities.  Remember that this is a synthesis of evidence that you are considering for application to practice, so definitely include your judgment regarding that in your discussion.
The paper should be set up in the standard format for a scholarly paper with (at the minimum) the following sections (use these as section headings):
Title Page with your name and appropriate information (not included in 10 page limit)
Abstract (not included in 10-page limit). See APA manual for how to write an abstract.
Introduction (brief, includes why this topic is a problem/issue/or needs to be addressed along with your EBP question)  The introduction should be no longer than 1 page.
Methods Brief statements about the Search Strategies that you used [about 1 or 2 paragraphs].  Include the (at least 2) search engines and databases that you used, your search terms and any inclusion or exclusion criteria
Review of the literature (this is essentially your “findings”)
    Discussion of your findings
Conclusion (Based on the evidence that you present, not your clinical experience or your opinion)
Your References, APA Format (not included in the 10-page limit)
Your Tables of Evidence and PRISMA flowchart [as an Appendix, not included in the 10-page limit) Remember that the table does not substitute for the review of the literature section.  You need to write a brief summary of each study in the review of the literature.
The length of your paper depends on the topic and the amount of literature that is available.  If your paper becomes long, please reevaluate and see if you could be more concise in your writing.  You should be able to do this in NO MORE THAN 10 PAGES, not counting a cover page or the reference list.  The paper must be in APA format, including a running head with your name and the page number in it.  Submit your paper through the Safe Assignment link in this folder (Assignments >> Synthesis Paper >> Synthesis Paper Assignment green checkmark).
Note:  The focus of an evidence synthesis is quite different from a research proposal, so do not confuse the two.  Your purpose in this paper is to analyze and synthesize whatever evidence is out there to answer your EBP question.  Think of this as laying out the support for your planned practice.
Also, do maintain an objective stance and voice in your presentation of the problem/question and in your critique and synthesis of the evidence.  And remember to use a professional writing style much like the various papers that you are reviewing and critiquing.

Title: The Importance of Vision Statements in Strategic Planning and the Reluctance of Agency Leaders to Develop Them

I have added the pages, but I want the answer to come from your understanding and not copy-paste from the book.
For a vision statement to be effective, it must motivate workforce, provide a clear sense of direction, and hint at the journey that the organization is about to embark on. Given the importance of this aspect of the strategic plan, how would you explain the apparent reluctance of agency leaders to develop compelling vision statements.
Also, please identify the key aspects of the vision that you now believe are of critical importance in CSFs 2 and 3, specifically in developing an insightful assessment, compelling strategic goals, and innovative strategies. Also, of the 6 leaders whose contributions were summarized in Part 2 of Avoiding Disappointment, which one appealed to you the most? Which one the least. Please explain.
