Nursing Administrator Case Study
You are
the nurse manager in a a small department within the 400– bed Médica Sur Lomas
hospital, in which most of the patients speak English as a second language.
During a recent interdepartmental meeting, the infection control department
reported a two-times increase in D from last year. Knowing the significant
financial impact of hospital-acquired infections and accreditation standards,
this issue must immediately be addressed by your department.
As the
nurse manager, you are charged with evaluating this problem and implementing a
quality improvement process to reverse these reported levels. Your team is not
pleased that they have been asked to spearhead this initiative and already feel
overworked. Your goal is to implement a quality improvement process that
addresses risk factors, medication use, compliance, and information literacy
based on a facility risk assessment.
This
proposal must identify the accreditation standard that is impacted by increased
infection rates, the fiscal and physical impact of increased infection rates,
processes to be implemented to bring about the desired change, along with an
evaluation method for the stated plan. Utilize Lewin’s theory of change with
examples of how you will address the different stages, along with a process
improvement model that will be embraced by your team.

Consider each of the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and the exemplars within each dimension. Download the Covey Matrix template Download Covey Matrix templateand add each of the 20 exemplars to your template. Then analyze your results. Be descriptive and thorough in your responses.
1. Consider where you placed the exemplars. Discuss item(s) that you previously thought were important or urgent, but, ultimately, were categorized as less urgent or important.
2. What can you delegate to someone else? How can you ease your load to be able to focus on urgent/important tasks?
3. What items did you identify as ‘time-wasters’ or tasks that distract you (not urgent/not important)? What is your strategy to reduce or eliminate these items?
4. For tasks you prioritized as urgent/important, what is your plan to ensure they are all completed on time?

That includes the emotional, physical, occupational, intellectual, financial, social, environmental, and spiritual parts. This assignment will combine the Eight Dimensions of Wellness and how you prioritize tasks. Creating a Covey Matrix will help you visualize which everyday tasks and wellness items are most urgent and important in your life…and which ones are not. This is an effective tool for prioritizing and time management.
In the next assignment, you will look more in-depth at the specific dimension of Occupational Wellness.
