    Please create a PDF according to the outline
    You can think of the meaning of the work as you like
    Think about it online
    You can think about the size of art work
    EXHIBITION PROPOSAL OUTLINE
    For Kana Furuichi, W22511374
    ALL art majors are required to develop and install a BFA Capstone exhibition. However, this Prototype Exhibition Proposal will take the place of a physical exhibition. This proposal is for practice only (although it could be used as a model for a real proposal later).
    FINAL VERSION: Submit as a PDF file no later than December 3, 2024
    To: Marguerite Perret: ******************************
    PROPOSAL PACKET: Develop an exhibition proposal reflecting the themes and artworks for an exhibition of your work. NOTE: this will be accepted in place of a physical senior thesis show.
    1. Exhibition Space: a. Pick a REAL site located anywhere (this may be done in Japan).
    b. Write a brief report on your proposed space. Visit (in person or online) and research that venue. What kind of space is it? A museum, gallery, community arts space? Coffee House? Other? c. Is there gallery lighting available? What kind of wall space/hanging system, pedestals/floor space is available. Is it appropriate for the work you are proposing? d. If you visit the space, ask for an exhibition proposal form and floor plan. Often these forms are available online. OR take photos or make a sketch—you can tell the gallery staff—if asked—that you are working on a school project.
    2. Description of Work to be installed:
    a. How much work is already completed/available work;
    b. Describe any new work that will be created;
    c. Media/ type;
    d. Describe any series or bodies of work as applicable;
    e. How many 2D/3D/4D;
    f. Scale/Size;
    g. Framing? How will 2D work be displayed?
    h. Special equipment or technology requirements (if any);
    i. Note any specific installation requirements (wall space, pedestals, hanging items from the ceiling…?)
    j. How will viewers experience the work? 3. Cover Letter to your well-researched exhibition. Know to whom you are addressing the letter. Introduce yourself briefly in the first paragraph and explain why you are interested in showing in this space. You do not have to send this letter!
    4. Exhibition Statement: An exhibition Statement addresses concept, what unifies that work into a coherent exhibition, what work in what media will be offered, and addresses presentation and installation considerations. Up to one paragraph for each of these considerations or one page
    • Open with a strong, clear sentence that communicates your idea. There should be a clear purpose to the exhibition. A strong proposal has a point of view. Be specific when writing and make a compelling case for your idea and how this is expressed in the exhibition and through your practice.
    • What are you trying to accomplish with this work, in this show? Bring awareness to an issue? Explore a new idea or medium? Present a narrative or tell a story?
    • What is this project about? Is there anything innovative or unique about your concept and work? Conceptual premise? Medium and/or approach?
    • Why did you choose these artworks and how do they support the conceptual premise of your exhibition? Are you creating a dynamic cohesive experience?
    • Type of exhibition as applicable—retrospective/reflective, installation, new media or immersive, or a thematic group of paintings?
    5. Exhibition Planning Schedule: Working backwards from the ‘proposed’ date of your exhibition. Look at a Calendar and Plan your time. The following is NOT a complete list of considerations, make sure you include EVERYTHING that you will need to take into account to ensure a successful project.
    3 months-1 year or more depending on project
    • Artwork—Inventory and production: Which existing works will be part of your exhibition. If your show is THIS semester, you should have a good idea already of what is going on display. What still needs to be created? Schedule how long it will take to make that work. Do you need to have any of the work commercially printed before framing or other forms of display? Where will you go to have this done? What is the turn-around for that? Put it on the calendar.
    • Preparing artwork for display: How much time do you need for framing? Are there pedestals available or do you need to create your own display furniture? Do you need projectors, or a way to hang from the ceiling? Does anything need to be painted?
    • Budgeting and funding: Research and seek funding sources as soon as possible, ideally, as soon as you have a concept for your project. A WTE (Washburn Transformational Experience) grant can cover up to $1,200 of your material costs. Apply if you are eligible!
    • When should you have your invite and PR lists ready? And your PR materials ready to send out?
    • When would you visit the gallery/venue/space to do a final planning of artwork placement?
    • When will you order your signage lettering and print your labels?
    • How long will you need for installation? And how long for de-installation?
    6. Installation Plan BFA: relate this information to the gallery in which you will be installing your BFA show. A floor plan of the Art Building galleries is available online under this module.
    BA Studio or Art History: relate this information to the space you are using for your proposal, and not the art department gallery. Most exhibiting venues will have a gallery floor plan available online. If not, use the photos you took when researching spaces.
    • Aesthetic design of your display in the gallery: discuss how you will group similar works, incorporate any installation elements, create a flow in the space and how you are designing for the space.
    • Framing and-or other and alternative methods of presenting 2D work • Requirements for pedestals, custom displays/other installation requirements such as false walls or hanging from the ceiling
    • Gallery Sketch marked up with proposed layout
    • Draft/Study for signage (title of show + your name)
    • Draft/Study for label (title of work, date completed, media, other explanatory information as applicable)
    7. Supporting Materials: (Required)
    a. Artists Statement: An artist statement is not the same as the exhibition statement. This address you, as an artist, more broadly, beyond this particular exhibition. What kind of artist are you, what media do you work in? What themes, concepts, aesthetic concerns interest you? Why?
    b. Artist/Curator Bio (1 short paragraph–summary);
    c. Draft/study for the required poster OR social media announcement;
    d. Ten-twenty images of work to be considered for exhibition;
    i. IMAGES: Hi quality jpegs, bright, in focus, neutral background. No bigger than 1-4 MB Jpegs ii. Number these in the file name– Examples;
    1. 01Your Name-DuckPainting.jpg
    2. 02YourName-Cat Painting.jpg
    iii. Annotated Image List: this is a corresponding list of details about your images and video links.
    1. Name (Your Name)
    2. Title of work (ie: Whispering Willows)
    3. Medium and size of work (ie: Watercolor and mixed media, 11” x 17”)
    4. Year completed (ie: 2024)
    5. Any specific notes relevant to the piece, unique techniques or content (Machine embroidered designs add texture and reference 19th Century textile works)
    8. SAMPLE Budget: Exhibition Budget: include printing artwork, framing and other presentation costs, signage, installation, publicity, reception and…? You can group items under subcategories.

    “Adapting Literature: A Comparative Review of Two Adaptations of the Same Novel or Two Different Novels”

    Several of the novels we have read this semester have been adapted into other forms – film, TV series, play, musical, graphic novel, etc . Write a comparative review essay which either a) looks at two different adaptations of the same novel or b) looks at adaptations of two different novels. How do the creators approach the task of adapting the novel(s)? Which elements are preserved and which are altered? What do you think, as a critic, about how the adaptations work as adaptations – how do they illuminate interesting or new aspects of the originals, and how do they take the characters and ideas of the novel(s) in their own direction? This can include assessment – what they get right, what they get wrong – but it should focus more on analysis than judgment. You should be sure to cite specific evidence from both book(s) and adaptations to support your claims.
    Note about sources: This essay should compare either two adaptations of one single novel, or
    one adaptation (each) of two different novels. You should also incorporate and cite at least three other sources, which can include other critics’ reviews of the adaptations you are talking about.
    Ideas for adaptations (there may be others I have missed!):
    Orlando film directed by Sally Potter, 1996 ( available online through NYU Library); Orlando: My Political Biography film directed by Paul Preciado, 2023 (streaming on Apple+); Orlando play by Sarah Ruhl, 2010, directed by Will Davis at Signature Theater 2024
    Kindred graphic novel by Damion Duffy and John Jennings, 2017 (available on Amazon or online through NYU Library); Kindred TV series, developed by Brandon Jacobs-Jenkins, 2022 (streaming on Hulu)
    Ragtime film directed by Milos Forman, 1981 (streaming on Apple+); Ragtime musical by Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and Terrence McNally, 1998 (no video recording but you can find the full soundtrack on Apple Music or other platforms, as well various clips,   a low quality bootleg, and many community theater productions on YouTube)

    Reflecting on My Experience in English Composition I: Lessons Learned and Areas for Growth

    You have completed English Composition I! In as much as reflection is a genre, it is also an action—one of the most important actions of the writing process. Writing a reflection does not mean that you focus on what you would have changed or what you may have failed at doing; instead, a reflection should be a holistic assessment of an experience so that you can apply those lessons to the next experience.
    You have written two essays for this course. Please reflect upon your experience in English Composition I by addressing the following questions. You do not have to address all of them or address them in order.
    What was your most successful essay in this course? You may want to judge that based upon your instructor’s assessment, but it would be more beneficial for you to base this upon what you feel is your best work. What was it that made this essay so successful for you?
    What kinds of elements do you consider when thinking about what makes a successful essay? After listing some of those attributes, how does your “most successful” essay match up with these elements? In what ways does it fall short?
    What would you have done differently when writing the essay you deemed less successful than the other? In thinking about what you would have changed, did you really have the opportunity to make that change at the time? Why, or why not?
    What have you learned about the writing process? How has the emergence or, at least, definition of that process changed how you write, if at all?
    What was your favorite thing that we did in the course? Why? What was the least appealing thing we did in the course? Why? What revisions would you suggest for this course to make it more impactful?
    Think about Part III of the discussion board in Unit I that asked you to consider your greatest strengths and weaknesses as a writer and to anticipate the greatest challenges you would face in this course. Now that you have completed the class, have your answers to these questions changed? If so, how?

    DO NOT CHANGE THE TOPIC FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT. For this assignment, its already written. I just need support in revision and seeing if there is anything that needs to be taken out and if anything that needs to be added please do so. Below is that instructions and attached is the paper already written.
    Guidelines for final Project
    The purpose of this paper is to provide a final, coherent, carefully written data analysis and reporting on major findings from your proposed study that you developed last semester and end it with a discussion of your findings and whether or not, your findings are consistent with evidence from the literature, and finally end with some recommendations. Use at least seven scholarly sources and make sure to adhere to APA format.  Use font type Times New Roman, Font Size (12). The paper should be No more than 15 pages in length double spaced (body of text, not including references and appendices) and should include the following major headings:
    I. Background, Study Rationale and Aims
    II. Proposed Methodology
    III. Proposed Data Analysis
    IV. Major Finding
    V. Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations
    NOTE: As indicated by the APA Publication Manual, the paper must end with a reference section.  An abstract is optional in this paper.  At least seven scholarly works (journal articles, evaluation reports, and/or book chapters) must be referenced.
    Paper Sections/Major Headings
    I. Background, Study Rationale and Aims [1 – 2 pages].  Begin with a problem statement that identifies the issue the study proposes to examine.  Follow this with a brief section on the study rationale; why should this study be conducted, and what is its significance?  How will the study be important to the target population, the community, the larger society, etc.?  Remember, the objective here is to convince readers/funders of the need for the study.  Be succinct but also strive for impact and incorporate relevant statistics and data that highlight the need to study the issue identified in the problem statement.  Close this section with the study aim(s), research question(s), and hypothesis(-es).
    II. Proposed Methodology [3 – 4pages].  In this section, address how the study will be conducted.  The following bullet points are intended to guide the content of the methodology section:
    • Describe and justify the study design.  Be specific.  For example, is the design quasi-experimental or experimental? Is it retrospective, cross-sectional, longitudinal, etc.?  Will there be a comparison group/control group, and how will that group be constructed?  Be sure to explain the choice of study design; why is it the most appropriate for the study?  Moreover, address issues and threats to internal and external validities.
    • Describe the sample (human participant characteristics) and recruitment strategies.  What type of probability or non-probability sampling will be employed and why?  What will be the source of the sample and the number of participants?
    • Lay out the data collection procedures.  What steps will be taken, and by whom, to collect data and provide informed consent?  What specific data will be collected, from whom, and for how long?  Articulate how the chief study variables will be operationalized and measured.  Address the reliability and validity of measurement tools.  Propose the use of at least one existing scale/measurement, identify it by name and report on its reliability and validity as noted in the literature (including the citation of such indicators as Cronbach’s alpha, etc.).  For those variables where an instrument is not readily available, indicate the concepts that need to be measured and be clear about how these concepts will be observed.  Be sure to identify the level of measurement of the variables.  Issues of reliability and validity should be addressed for these measurement approaches, as well.
    III. Proposed Data Analysis Plan [1 – 2 pages].  In this section you need to address the data analysis plan. What kind of data you have collected, how do you plan to analyze?
    a. Quantitative, Univariate, and Bivariate Analysis: indicate what kind of variables you collected, and you intend to analyze, what test you will be using to answer your questions and test your hypothesis, and what kind of indicators you will be looking for.
    b. Qualitative: Content analysis, thematic analysis, and coding. Indicate what approach you will be utilizing to look for patterns in the data, what indicators you would be looking for and what evidence supports your findings.
    V. Major findings [3 – 5 pages] in this section you will need to report on the major findings from the collected data/secondary data based on the proposed analysis in the previous section. For instance, whether you were using quantitative or qualitative analysis approach you will need to report on the major characteristics/ demographics of your targeted population, for instance, age, income, education level, race, ethnicity, household type and size, incarceration history, history of mental illness, etc…
    Whether you were using an open-ended or a close-ended questionnaires/surveys, interviews “structured, unstructured, or semi structured” focus groups, and/or observation “direct, indirect, participatory”
    Quantitative:  The following section should include the findings form the major test that you conducted to test your hypothesis, report the significance value and state your decision whether your hypothesis/hypotheses were accepted or rejected.
    Quantitative: The following section should include the findings form the major patterns, themes and or codes that you have determined based on the collected data, you will also need to support your findings with anecdotes and quotes from the data, or numbers from examined records, and secondary data.
    VI. Discussion, Conclusion, and Recommendations [1 – 2 pages].  Discuss the major findings from the previous section and explain whether your research question(s) were answered and why. Moreover, explain your findings from your hypothesis testing, for instance, if your hypothesis were accepted or rejected what does that pertain to. In addition, discuss and explain whether your findings were consistent with the findings from the literature and why? What do you conclude from that? Finally, end this section and your study with some recommendations based on your literature review and your study findings.
